WesternU at the 6th Pomona 5K & 10K

Western University of Health Sciences had a strong presence at the 6th Pomona 5K & 10K Saturday, Oct. 15, 2022, with students and staff participating in the two races.


Third-year COMP student Ryan Burd won the 10K for the second year in a row with a time of 33:08.


WesternU students placed second and third in the female 10K. Third-year College of Podiatric Medicine student Savannah Santiago came in second place and third-year College of Veterinary Medicine student Samara Schreier came in third place. In the photo to the right, Schreier, Santiago, and Burd are shown together after the race.


WesternU was a race sponsor. Part of the race wound through part of the WesternU Esplanade.

WesternU COMP-Northwest students

assist at World Athletics Championships

A group of 16 Western University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific-Northwest students volunteered this summer at the World Athletics Championships Oregon22, the first time this event was held in the U.S.


More than 1,700 athletes from 179 countries (plus the Athlete Refugee Team) competed at Hayward Field at the University of Oregon. A record-breaking 29 countries won gold medals at these Championships, compared with 26 in 2017, according to the World Athletics website.


COMP-Northwest students joined more than 1,500 volunteers at the event, which brought together top athletes from around the world.

Women in Optometry wrote an in-depth feature on WesternU College of Optometry alumna Linh Ngo, OD '17.


Dr. Ngo opened her dry eye and aesthetics med spa, Sacramento Dry Eye Clinic, earlier this year after identifying a need in the region for thorough dry eye treatment as well as myopia management.

Get ready for the Great ShakeOut Oct. 20

Western University of Health Sciences will participate in the Great ShakeOut earthquake drill at 10:20 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, 2022.

 

Everyone on the Pomona and Lebanon campuses are asked to participate except for WesternU Health and the Pet Health Center. At 10:20 a.m., please Drop, Cover and Hold On for one minute.


After the one-minute “Drop, Cover and Hold On” drill, please exit your building (except for all WesternU Health locations and the Pet Health Center). Remember to use the stairs instead of the elevators, use the exit door closest to you and go to your evacuation area. Please follow the directions of the Security Officers or “Safety Coordinators” (they will be the ones wearing the hard hat and safety vest). Roll call for employees will be taken by the Safety Coordinators to assure everyone is accounted for. Click here for the WesternU California campus map then go to “Emergency Services” to see where your evacuation area is located. COMP-Northwest and CHS-Northwest should evacuate to their respective parking lots.
