From the Chapter President

Dear Louisiana Chapter Members,

As your Chapter President, I want to address the recent lawsuit filed by former Appraisal Institute CEO Cindy Chance against the Appraisal Institute, as reported in various news outlets, including The New York Times on May 8, 2025. We understand that this news may raise questions and concerns, and we are committed to keeping you informed with transparency and professionalism.

The lawsuit includes allegations of wrongful termination, sexual harassment, and governance issues within the Appraisal Institute. These are serious claims, and the Appraisal Institute’s national leadership has stated that it is committed to a thorough investigation, emphasizing its policies against discrimination, harassment, and retaliation. As a chapter, we are not directly involved in the legal proceedings, but we are closely monitoring developments and will share relevant updates as they become available.

Our focus remains on supporting you, our members, and advancing the appraisal profession. The Louisiana Chapter is dedicated to fostering a respectful, inclusive, and professional environment. We encourage open dialogue and invite you to reach out with any questions or concerns. You can contact me directly at tomh@murphyappraisal.com or attend our next chapter meeting in June, where we can discuss this in more detail.

Thank you for your continued commitment to the Appraisal Institute and our shared mission of upholding the highest standards in real estate appraisal. We will navigate this challenging time together with integrity and unity.

Respectfully,

Tom Hancock, MAI

2025 Louisiana Chapter President
