"I’ve always been incredibly competitive, so I think it was destined for me to join DECA. I also believe that DECA promotes a determined spirit. You can work on developing in your event every day of the year and still not make the cut, but you use that failure to motivate yourself for the next year. You set yourself up for a redemption story and a purer feeling of fulfillment when you’re finally on stage in front of thousands of fellow competitors as they call your name.
For me, being the District 11 DECA Vice President is about helping provide the same sense of community that I have with Parkview DECA to the whole district of 15 high schools. Even being as competitive as I am, the first four words of the DECA mission statement are the most important to me: 'DECA prepares emerging leaders…' So it has been my mission to visit all the chapters in our district and help them grow as leaders. We can compete against each other any day of the week, but we grow more as individuals through development of our leadership."
