Letter from Spiritual Life

Greetings from the Spiritual Life Office!

As I write, the first dustings of snow are visible under the Creekside evergreens. In spite of the tumult of the Martin Fire and subsequent evacuation, our Village has come together to kick off the fall season joyfully with a rich array of music, singing, prayer, and contemplation in daily Sacred Space practice.

In just the past month, we have been blessed by the presence of visiting faculty, Reverend Rachel Taber-Hamilton of Everett, WA, who lent her beautiful preaching to our community in October, as well as two visiting musicians during our volunteer work weeks, Anne Basye and Bonnie Drewes. Meanwhile, we are immensely grateful to bridge pastor Lynnette Rose, who will be offering continuity of services and pastoral care during regular visits to the Village over the coming months.

Holden staff members remain engaged as ever in lending their diverse talents to our Spiritual Life offerings, including through song circles, Holden Evening Prayer, and, most recently, a puppet vespers service led by Villager Janice Haakons. What a gift to immerse ourselves in traditions both old and new!

As our days become shorter and our village grows cozier, we look forward to an extended Advent in the coming weeks. We enter this season grounding ourselves in the rhythms of the liturgical calendar and we consider what the arrival of Christ’s justice looks like in our own lives. May Christ’s justice make itself known in your life and in your beloved community!
