Greetings from C. Darby Ulery, founder of "Let's Go! Fairhope" events-related newsletter, calendar and website resource for Fairhope, Alabama.

A special thank you to all of our veterans and military families this week as we recognize those who have served to protect our national security.

Happy 130th Birthday, Fairhope! Fairhope was founded November 15, 1894.

For those who know Fairhope history, or tuned in last week for the answer to our trivia question, you know it was a small group of adults and children (plus a cow and a mare), with a big idea to try to solve the problem of poverty that launched the "fair hope of success" known today as Fairhope, Alabama, USA.

Come out for a Colony Cemetery tour on Oak Street (across from the Eastern Shore Art Center, next to City Hall) on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at 11am for a family-friendly, respectful, educational introduction to our founding story. The tour is free; donations are appreciated.

Congratulations to Drew Cramer for being our trivia winner from last week. Drew's name was drawn out of the Let's Go! Fairhope hat from the correct answers submitted to win a Cammie's Old Dutch Ice Cream Shoppe gift certificate. Drew, please holla back so we know where to mail your prize : )

Last Week's Question: Was Henry George (namesake for Henry George park on the bluff) in Fairhope for Round Up Day - aka. Founders' Day - in 1894?

Correct Answer: No.

Henry George, the father of the Single Tax economic theory critical to Fairhope's history, was not part of the group that arrived on November 15, 1894. He is not known to have ever visited Fairhope, and in fact it's said he probably wasn't a fan. Come out for the tour to learn more.

Around the gulf coast, a "mullet" often refers to cigar-shaped fish seen jumping out of the water most often around dusk and dawn. But at Father and Son's Barber shop, located at 113 Greeno Rd S Unit A in Fairhope, there is a unique event going on all about the mullet haircut.

Think it was just from the 1980's?? Think again. It was even mentioned in The Iliad...

Let’s Go Fairhope interviewed Father and Son’s Barber owners Chuck and Dana Chavis to get a cut of the facts regarding this special annual contest:
