Dear Neighbors,
Happy Hispanic Heritage Month! We kicked it off at City Hall with the Mexican flag raising, and last week I had the pleasure of joining our students over at Horace Mann Elementary for their Latinx Read-In.
Unfortunately, this month has also seen additional ICE activity in San José, with a member of our community being arrested by ICE after agents misrepresented themselves as local law enforcement. You can read my full statement on the matter here, but let me be clear: no one in San José should live in fear. As the Trump Administration finds new ways to circumvent the law, we must be ready to step up and fight back.
I’m currently in Atlanta with the Chamber of Commerce on a Study Mission to learn from the city’s successful investments in sports and entertainment infrastructure. With several large events coming to town in 2026, this couldn’t be more timely, and I look forward to sharing my findings with you when I get back to San José.
But my team is hard at work for you back in District 3! You can learn more about them here. As always, you can reach out to me and my team about things you'd like to see in the newsletter and any other comments and concerns at district3@sanjoseca.gov.
Yours in community,

Kellogg encampment abatement
Encampment abatements are a core part of the City's homelessness strategy, but these abatements require careful planning to ensure positive outcomes for our housed and unhoused neighbors alike. Our team helped do just that, collaborating with Supervisor Duong's office and our nonprofit partners this week to ensure that we found short term safe parking sites for every single one of the thirty folks encamped at the Kellogg factory, and we’re continuing to work with our partners at the County, VTA, and advocate communities on long term solutions.

Child Advocates of Silicon Valley
We’re partnering with Child Advocates of Silicon Valley to help recruit volunteers to become Advocates for foster youth and children in Santa Clara County. Working with children in foster care can be tough and demanding, but it's also very impactful. As an Advocate Volunteer, you have the ability to help a foster child overcome the effects of having experienced abuse, neglect and/or abandonment. This can completely alter the life trajectory of a child.
Learn how you can make a difference in a foster child's life by attending a virtual volunteer info session.

| | | My team and I had a great night at the East Village block party, checking out the local vendors and taking in a performance from SJSU alumna Ashley Mehta. It's a joy to see our streets come alive — not just with music, food, and fun — but with the energy of people coming together. This is the kind of vibrancy that brings a city to life, so thank you to the leadership of East Village for bringing us all together. | | I capped off a busy Saturday with a visit to the Luna Park Chalk Arts Festival! It was wonderful seeing artists, neighbors, and families come together to create art, dance to live music, and building stronger neighborhoods in the process. Save the date for next year's festival: September 19, 2026! | | | | |
