From Your Pastor...

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent, a 40-day season (not counting Sundays) when Christians reflect on their lives and prepare their hearts for Easter. Many people mark the season by giving something up—chocolate, television, red meat, or another daily habit—as a way of focusing more intentionally on their faith. Another meaningful way to observe Lent is to take something on: a new act of stewardship, service, or devotion.

This year, you might consider singing with the choir, helping fold or stuff bulletins, writing notes to shut-ins, or serving in another quiet but meaningful way. These simple acts can deepen your faith and strengthen our church community.

You are invited to begin this season with our Ash Wednesday service at 6:00 p.m. in the sanctuary. David Cowan will deliver the message, our chancel choir will sing, hands-on prayer stations will be available, and the service will conclude with the imposition of ashes—an ancient sign of humility and grace.

If you have never attended an Ash Wednesday service, this is a wonderful time to begin. Please call or email the church office to learn about Lenten stewardship opportunities.

It is a privilege to serve God as one of your clergy.

Heart to Heart Talks

We remember the important heart-to-heart talks in our lives, whether a dashboard confessional between parent and child, a wee-hours dialogue with a friend, or a life-changing FaceTime with someone we love. This series explores conversations with Jesus in the gospels. As people come seeking answers to their deepest questions, or making claims about their faith, or wondering who he is, Jesus engages, challenges, and exhorts. What would we ask Jesus if we could meet him? And how might he answer us?

Join us for our Lenten sermon series that begins on February 22, "Heart to Heart Talks."

February 22: "Not Today, Satan" (Matthew 4:1-11)

March 1: "Hush, Hush" (John 3:1-17)

March 8: "Well, Actually" (John 4:5-42)

March 15: "So Many Questions" (John 9:1-41)

March 22: "Too Little, Too Late" (John 11:1-45)

March 29: "The Truth Hearts" (Matthew 26:14-35)

April 5: "Spread the Word" (John 20:1-18)

Embracing the Uncertain

A Bible Study for Unsteady Times

Led by Rev. Tommy Ward

6:00 – 7:00 p.m. February 25 – March 25

Just turning on the news lets us know we are living in uncertain times.  In Embracing the Uncertain, Magrey deVega invites readers to engage and wrestle with life’s uncertainties, not ignore them. Each lesson will consider a story of Jesus’ life and ministry that points us forward to the cross and shows us how to follow Jesus with courage, hope, and obedience.

Building Holy Habits into a Rule of Life

Led by Rev. Martha Touchton and Friends

6:00 – 7:00 p.m. February 25 – March 25

We are the product of our habits! Spiritual habits enable us to walk closer God and lead us to grow deeper in our relationship with God and others. Holy Habits help us orient our lives toward being disciples of Jesus Christ every day. We’ll consider how we can expand and enhance these habits as adults and help them be built into the lives of our youth, children, and families.

Thank You for Generously Sharing the Life

Thank you, St. Mark’s, for your incredible generosity in supporting our most recent blood drive. Because of your willingness to give, 27 of 32 appointments were filled, resulting in 21 units of blood collected, enough to potentially save 63 lives. This is a powerful witness to what it means to live the generous life, offering hope, care, and compassion to neighbors we may never meet. Your generosity truly makes a life-saving difference.

Hidden in Plain Sight: Supporting Students Experiencing Homelessness

Many children in our own community come to school each day carrying more than backpacks—they carry uncertainty about where they will sleep, eat, or feel safe. Under the McKinney-Vento Act, students experiencing homelessness have the right to stability and support in their education. The ATLAS / Homeless Education Program works quietly and compassionately to meet these students’ academic, emotional, and basic needs so they can focus on learning and growing. Join us for an informative and hopeful presentation to learn how our community can make a meaningful difference in the lives of these children.

The presenter will be Jessica Johnson - ATLAS Liaison for the Rutherford County Schools.
