Our fall publishing panel is tomorrow, October 17, at 4pm EST. Don’t forget to register! Our team of acquisitions editors will be talking about peer review in book publishing. This webinar will be of special interest to writers thinking about publishing a book with a university press, but anyone interested in learning about scholarly publishing is welcome to attend.

Hurricane Update

Our staff members made it safely through Hurricanes Helene and Milton. Those of us in our main office in Gainesville did not experience significant impacts, but our thoughts are with the people in Florida, North Carolina, Tennessee, and other states who have been affected by these storms over the past three weeks.

If you are looking for ways to help contribute to relief efforts, see the suggestions below.

To support independent bookstores affected by Helene or Milton, donate to the Book Industry Charitable Foundation (Binc), a nonprofit that helps bookstore owners and employees faced with unforeseen emergency needs.

To support Florida libraries during this time, donate to the Florida Library Association’s Hurricane Relief Fund for Florida Libraries.

Fall Book Highlight

Sunset Colonies

A Visual Elegy to South Florida's Mobile Home Communities

By Diego Alejandro Waisman

In a collection of photographs accompanied by essays, Sunset Colonies portrays the vulnerabilities experienced by residents of South Florida’s mobile home communities amid rapid urban transformation and the threat of economic displacement.

“Waisman’s photographic collection offers a firm and impassioned grip on that frailest of dwellings—the ‘mobile home’ on the shifting South Florida landscape. Consider it a window onto a Miami too often overlooked.”—N. D. B. Connolly, author of A World More Concrete: Real Estate and the Remaking of Jim Crow South Florida
