Impact of Trauma Exposure Processing Group

Following Greater Richmond SCAN's Summer Professional Wellness Seminar, many participants expressed interest in an ongoing group to continue processing the impact of the work on themselves. Based on that feedback, SCAN is planning a 6-month cohort that will meet monthly on Zoom, Tuesdays from 9:30-10:30am. During the sessions, participants will explore various tools and techniques as well as process the impact of the work. To create a support network between participants, those who will be able to attend all/most of the sessions will be prioritized. If you are interested, please complete the interest form by August 9. SCAN will reach out to confirm participation and details for the group during the week of August 10.

Our next quarterly GRTICN Orientation is August 5, 12:00-1:00pm on Zoom. Orientation is open to new members and anyone interested in a refresher on the network. Register on Zoom.

Resources and Upcoming Events

GRTICN Community Resource Guide

The GRTICN Community Resource Guide was released earlier this year and includes over 140 resources across 20+ categories, all of which were identified by GRTICN members during a Community Resource Mapping event or are organizations that have been involved with the GRTICN. GRTICN members are encouraged to use the guide to identify resources for clients, coworkers, friends, and family, and to strengthen relationships with other agencies in the area. The guide is maintained by the GRTICN Outcomes Committee and helps to raise awareness about and engage more organizations in the GRTICN, promote cross-sector collaboration, and further the mission of the GRTICN. Take a look through the guide and share the link!

Free Child Safety Foundations Training from Darkness to Light

Join Darkness to Light for a one-hour virtual training, From Bystander to Upstander. Go beyond theoretical knowledge and learn practical skills for protecting children. In this training, you will learn how to be an upstander in child sexual abuse prevention and response. You will learn about boundary violations and inappropriate behaviors and discover how you can make spontaneous and planned interventions that reinforce boundaries and protect children. You can register to take the training during one of two sessions on August 18, a 10am session or 4pm session or in Spanish on August 12 at 10:00am.

FACT Champions and Ad Hoc Funding

The Family and Children's Trust Fund is providing up to $5,000 in ad hoc financial support to organizations that host statewide and local activities that improve the prevention, treatment, or public awareness of family violence.

FACT is also seeking nominations for 4 FACT Champions to be recognized and celebrated for their exceptional impact in preventing family violence across the life span. Professionals and community members are invited to complete the application to nominate leaders who have made significant contributions in this space. Once selected, awardees will be invited to attend FACT’s 40th Anniversary Celebration Reception on October 1. Additionally, FACT will provide a $10,000 award to a 501(c) nonprofit organization in good standing, selected by the awardee, that is working in the space of family violence prevention in Virginia. Applications and all requested information are due by August 7 at 11:59pm.

2026 KIDS COUNT Data for Virginia

The 2026 KIDS COUNT Data Book provides a clearer picture of how young people in Virginia are faring across economic security, education, health, and family/community well-being. While Virginia ranks 11th overall, the data also shows where systems are still falling short, including challenges around housing costs, youth disconnection, and reading and math proficiency. These numbers help point us toward the policy choices and community investments needed to ensure every young person can thrive. Explore the data and related resources on Voices for Virginia's Children's website.
