Why NIRMA?

Why are we members of NIRMA? To answer this question, we should look at why NIRMA exists.

Mission

To support regulated nuclear and selected industries, agencies, and their regulators in the development, implementation and administration of documents, records, and information management processes to facilitate cost-effective operations and regulatory compliance.

In our opinion, the start of this mission statement “To Support” really gets to the heart of this association. The Nuclear Industry is driven by continuous improvement and one of the results of this is ever improving and changing technology and regulations. The strength of NIRMA is the sharing of knowledge and experience so that we can not only overcome the challenges of these improvements, but to move the industry forward with high and consistent standards for all members.

Our Ask of You

As a member, get engaged with the Business Units. This allows you to share your knowledge and experience as well as provides an opportunity for you to learn from others in an industry that is facing the same challenges as you.

Position Paper 08 (PP08) -

Electronic Signature Methods

PP08 was recently circulated for NIRMA membership review and is nearing completion. The team is excited to get this paper out as electronic signature is always a hot topic in our industry. Bill Clover, Constellation, has been the primary author and driving force behind this position paper. A big thank you to Bill for getting this guidance out to our membership.

Industry Foundation Class (IFC) for 3D Models

Rich Giska is working to draft a white paper on the topic of 3D models and the impact on the creation of Quality Assurance (QA) records. The white paper is a first step toward identifying the impact 3D modeling may have on records management in the nuclear industry.

We need YOU!

New members are always welcome in RIMBU. If you have an interest in the topics mentioned above or anything else which affects you as a records management professional, RIMBU needs your knowledge and input.

RIMBU meets on the second Wednesday of every month. If you’d like to receive an invite, please reach out to Rhonda Redding at Rhonda.redding@evergy.com.

Professional Development Business Unit (PDBU)

Last month was a very busy month for the PDBU team. We have a lot of exciting information to share with the membership. First and most importantly, we have our brand-new leadership team in place beginning in 2024.

Before I introduce them, I want to give one last thank you to Gil Brueckner for being an outstanding Co-Director for the business unit in 2022 and 2023. Thanks for all the hard work and leadership. Now I would like to introduce our new PDBU Director and Co-Director.

Jessica Lyn Jones will take the PDBU Director role in 2024. She comes to the role with a great deal of experience as a Certified Records Manager and mentoring others. Her background includes:

  • Enterprise Records, Records Consultant – TVA
  • Nuclear Management Services, Information Representative Records – TVA
  • Records Analyst II – Alliant Energy

In addition, she is a RIMBU member, participated in the NIRMA Mentorship Program, and she is a Part 6 Grader and Exam Mentor with the Institute of Certified Records Managers (ICRM). She will bring both a passion for excellence and growth to the PDBU team.

Next, we are extremely fortunate to have Christine Spring in the role of Co-Director for the PDBU. She also joins the team with an outstanding level of experience and knowledge. Her background includes:

  • Supervisor for Records and Document Control at Energy Harbor Perry Nuclear Plant in Perry, Ohio
  • Experience as a Records Clerk, Records Verification, and Records Management
  • She is relatively new to NIRMA but has focused on the PDBU as her focus and passion

Christine wants to help existing and new members grow in their career via the Mentor Program and the available Certification Programs.

We are thrilled to welcome them to the team and 2024 is going to be an outstanding year for the Professional Development Business Unit.

Our progress on making additions and improvement to the NIRMA Mentor Program and Certification program continues. In addition, we have an exciting new initiative that we are working on that we hope to announce in the coming weeks. Just remember our monthly meetings take place on the third Friday of every month at 9 a.m. CT. Everyone is invited and we welcome your participation. If you would like to attend, please contact me at Lou@AMSStoreandshred.com.

NIRMA 2024 Symposium Dates

The Board heard feedback of competing nuclear conferences and hoped we could shift the NIRMA Annual Symposium from the scheduled dates in 2024.  However, the new dates could not be arranged with the hotel.  We all need to plan on being there August 5 - 7, 2024 for the Symposium and August 8 for the Business Unit meetings.

Please save these dates on your calendar!  The NIRMA website has been updated to our original dates.
