2020: A Tennis Year Like No Other
2020 was a year that saw an unprecedented pause in our most familiar activities - from eating out, to travelling, visiting with family and friends, and for USTA tennis players, a league season cut short and yet to return. While we’re well into 2021, USTA Vermont continues to look forward to resuming adult and junior league, tournament, and championship play throughout our state. Of course, we all await warmer weather, and the outdoor tennis it brings on clay, hard, or Har-tru surfaces. Whether you are a youth or adult player, coach, club owner, pro, or fan, the goal is to get back to the game we love as safely as possible.
While we eagerly await news that safe play practices, vaccinations, and rigorous health standards can bring back competitive tennis in Vermont, USTA Vermont would like to use this time to plan wisely for the tennis to come.
Looking forward to seeing you on the court!
Joanna Beall
President, USTA Vermont

Think about Supporting USTA Vermont through Volunteering
Vermont’s USTA organizations are here to support the tennis faithful through programs, events, and the hopeful return of competitive play:
- The State League Committee (SLC) chaired by USPTA teaching pro and EDGE tennis Director Tammy Azur supports Local League Coordinator Lesli Nichols by providing governance for adult competitive and social play.
- Errol Nattrass, Bret Findley (Treasurer), Jeanne Hulsen, Kathy Erickson, SLC Chair Tammy Azur, and Rob Parker are your current representatives on the USTA Vermont State Association Board of Directors led by President Joanna Beall. Our goal aligns with USTA New England’s mandate to promote the growth and development of tennis throughout our region. We do this by creating opportunities for everyone to safely Get Out and Play through our Tennis in the Parks, statewide tournaments, fundraising events, and Youth Tennis programs.
- Both are volunteer organizations, and both need You!
To better represent the needs of all tennis playing Vermonters, these organizations are seeking new committee members to join their ranks. With a goal of inclusivity and bringing tennis to all interested Vermonters - young and old and beginner and advanced - no matter where you live, we seek passionate individuals who have a stake in the game. Are you a registered USTA player or team captain between the ages of 18-100? Maybe you are
● A new or experienced player
● A coach or teaching professional
● A club owner/manager
● A community advocate
● A fitness or health professional
● A committed fan
