Greetings!
The AARP Foundation is working on a solution for secure and contactless tax help. There is nothing definite yet, but Bath-area volunteers are hoping to be able to offer some tax preparation service. The earliest possible start would be the beginning of March. The Library will provide updates as we get more information.
Be well.

Tax Season Support for Libraries
Have you ever noticed the Maine Library Fund donation option when completing your Maine Income Tax form? You can donate $5 or more and those funds support Maine Library initiatives via a grant program. Previously, Patten Free Library has been awarded a grant to support the Books on the Bus program. This year, we were awarded a grant to purchase some fabulous outdoor games for the Children's Room. You can support Maine Public Libraries by donating via your Maine Income Tax form using Schedule CP Charitable Contributions and Purchase of Park Passes:
- Go to your Maine Income Tax form - Form 1040ME
- Locate Schedule CP which is used for voluntary charitable contributions to any of the organizations listed. [Schedule CP is also used to purchase a park pass for entry into Maine State Parks].
- Look for Maine Public Library Fund in section A.
- Choose to donate _$5 _$10 _$25 or more.
- Maine taxpayers using the I-File system will also see the Maine Public Library Fund on the Schedule CP voluntary contributions page.
-
If you have any questions, see Maine Revenue Service (MRS) or consult your tax advisor.

Patten Free Library has joined forces with the Morse High School Library and R.S.U. 1 to organize this virtual community-wide “teach-in/read-in” for Black History Month. Every day in February, we'll post a new piece about lesser known figures and events in American History -- people and stories that may have been overlooked because of race. We still have some spots on the calendar if you have an idea for a submission. Contact Roberta at rjordan@patten.lib.me.us.

"Best in Snow": Literary Snowman Contest. After this week's snowfall, we had our first four entries in the 'Best in Snow' contest! Of course, no one knows just when nature will provide the raw materials, but it is looking very likely that next week will be a great one for creating a literary character with snow! Now is the time to start planning and assembling props for your frozen creation. Open to all ages. There will be prizes! You can enter as many times as you like.
We will accept photo entries of you and your snow creations through February 28. You can email your entry to Roberta at rjordan@patten.lib.me.us; if you have a g-mail account you can submit using this simple form.
