More City Annexation Plans, Illegal Immigrant Enforcement, New Legislative Session Brings More Fees, and More!

Here are some of the stories we are following this week. Connect with us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for up-to-the-minute news.

  • Colorado Springs City Council will vote to annex a large parcel of land near Schriever Space Force Base, now called the Karman Line Flagpole Annexation. This land will be used to build 6,500 upscale homes and will be serviced by city resources. What impact will this have on the water supply in our region, and, in particular, what impact will this have on water sharing agreements we have with agricultural water users in the lower Arkansas River Valley? If Colorado Springs annexes and builds despite impacts on water supply, will these agricultural users be cheated out of what they need? Will we see more water restrictions in our future?

  • Is this Karman Line Flagpole Annexation merely another haphazard annexation by a developer-friendly Colorado Springs City Council that is not looking at the big picture? Read the evidence presented in our latest original article, and decide for yourself.

  • We at Springs Taxpayers United could not create original content like this without support from readers like you. If you have the ability, please know that we appreciate any financial support you can give to keep our mission going.

  • One local group, as is custom now in Colorado Springs, is banding together to oppose this Karman Line Flagpole Annexation plan. They are asking for support from residents. You can learn more about this group here.

  • Colorado Springs is seeking input on how to spend federal housing grant dollars, paid for by taxpayers. They have created a survey on “fair housing”. They’d like your opinion on this issue. You will notice that this survey has a distinct bias in favor of what the city wants, which, ironically, isn’t really fair.

  • Denver Public Schools is planning to use taxpayer dollars to fight any illegal immigrant deportation efforts from the Trump administration. If you ever doubted that public schools are run by radicals at the expense of taxpayers, this should quash that doubt.

  • Illegal immigrants in Denver are bracing for President Trump's immigration law enforcement efforts. Illegal immigrants are also getting assistance from taxpayers through a non-profit, which is training Colorado lawyers to fight these deportations. They care about the citizens they want, not the citizens they have.

  • The Trump administration recently announced that schools, churches, and other sensitive spaces will not be off limits when enforcing immigration law. Immigration enforcement actions have already started in Colorado and elsewhere around the country.

  • El Paso County Sheriff Joseph Roybal will work with Immigration and Customs Enforcement on illegal immigrant deportation activities.

  • Meanwhile, the Teller County Sheriff’s Office has 3 suspected Venezuelan criminal gang members in custody. It is thought that these individuals are tied to the criminal gang that has taken up residence in Aurora, Colorado. Are these criminals scouting for new territory?

  • President Trump signed an executive order clarifying that, under the 14th Amendment as written, birthright citizenship only applies to children born of United States citizens, not just anyone who happens to have been trafficked. As expected, hard-left Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser has joined attorneys general from several other states to sue over this. They protect the citizens they want, not the citizens they have.

  • Republicans in the state legislature are attempting to repeal the costly “cage-free” egg law, as well as many other regulations that are robbing taxpayers blind. Expect all these efforts to fail. Our ruling class loves to steal your money.

  • Speaking of our ruling class stealing your money, the legislature is proposing to add $5 per month to your cell phone bill to create a 911 enterprise that you don’t need. It’s looting season at the capitol in Denver, folks. Every year, they gather and propose ways to steal more from you. After the session is over, they invest that time outside the legislative session scheming new ways to steal more from you next session. They represent themselves, not you.

  • Meanwhile, the Colorado Legislature is spending your money hand over fist. Their thirst for your earnings is insatiable.

  • The amount of government waste at both the state and federal levels is never-ending. Here's a federal taxpayer grant award that's wasting almost $59,000. The funds are awarded to History Colorado to survey at least 25 lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQA) historic resources in Colorado, and submit at least 3 associated nominations to the national register of historic places.

  • Many Colorado school districts are finally facing the reality that they will have to scale back budget projections in the face of declining public school enrollments.

  • We are told that we should not own cars and that we should rely on government public transportation for all our needs. One Denver woman needs to wake up at 4:15 a.m. just to accommodate the late and unreliable public transportation she is offered. Government enterprises don’t serve your needs, you serve theirs.

  • How much will Governor Jared Polis’ green energy fantasy cost taxpayers? Studies indicate that estimates of $61 billion are not unrealistic. This is yet another government boondoggle that taxpayers are being forced by law to absorb.

  • An engineering firm has been tasked with finding out why the Jenkins Middle School building is breaking into pieces and is now unsafe for students.

  • If you would like to help support us in our mission as government watchdogs by becoming a Newsletter Sponsor, we are offering two sponsorships for each weekly newsletter, at the nominal cost of $100 each. Funds raised from these sponsorship opportunities will help us to keep looking out for taxpayers.

Here are some upcoming meetings in the area. We hope you can attend one or more! If there are other public meetings you’d like to see announced here, please drop us a line. We are happy to include them in an upcoming newsletter. These might be government-related, candidate, or elected official meetings. Thanks!
