Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ -

Twenty parishioners leave this Friday morning on our Jubilee Year Pilgrimage honoring St. Francis of Assisi, traveling to Mission San Juan Bautista and Mission San Carlos Borromeo in Carmel.

The life of St. Francis offers a timely witness for our world. His freedom of heart came from detachment from material possessions and a deep communion with God, neighbor, and all of creation. In an age shaped by consumerism, he challenges us to ask: *Do we place God and our neighbor above what we own?*

Francis also reminds us that faith is more than a private experience. He witnessed to the Gospel through concrete acts of love, mercy, and peace. He did not judge others but joyfully proclaimed God's love in both word and deed, inviting us to resist indifference and selfishness.

The final years of Francis' life were marked by illness, failing eyesight, and physical suffering. Yet he never gave in to despair. He trusted that God was still at work in him, that there was always more to receive, more to become, and more life still unfolding.

That is the heart of conversion: placing our trust in the God who never gives up on us or on our world.

As our pilgrims pray in these holy places, please send us your prayer intentions for the mass we will be celebrating this Sunday at Mission San Juan Bautista. Send them to Pilgrimage Prayers.

The Holy Father has offered this prayer for the Jubilee:

Saint Francis, our brother, you who eight hundred years ago

went to meet Sister Death as a man at peace,

intercede for us before the Lord.

You recognized true peace in the Crucifix of San Damiano,

teach us to seek in Him the source of all reconciliation

that breaks down every wall.

You who, unarmed, crossed the lines of war

and misunderstanding, give us the courage to build bridges

where the world raises up boundaries.

In this time afflicted by conflict and division,

intercede for us so that we may become peacemakers:

unarmed and disarming witnesses of the peace

that comes from Christ.

Saint Francis of Assisi, pray for us!

Father Gil

P.S. Welcome Jesuit Fathers, Billy Biegler and Travis Russell who will be celebrating masses this Sunday. Fr. Mark is on vacation and I will be with the pilgrimage returning on Sunday evening.
