We cross the threshhold of another year as one closes and another begins. We have so many choices to make even in just this crossing. Of all the choices we have to make, these stand out.

  1. Looking back, do we celebrate the good or bemoan the difficulties?
  2. Looking forward: do we anticipate the good or dread the challenges?

As I listened to the homily on the eve of the new year, I was reminded - BE THANKFUL. Be thankful for all the blessings of the past year, and be thankful in advance for all the blessings that are to come!
We simply cannot know the reasons why our lives include trials of all kinds. Jesus asks us to trust in divine providence in St. Paul's words "all things work together for the good" (Rom 3:28). God also offers us good and joyous experiences! Be sure to dig through your memories for these as you reflect on the past year!

And BE THANKFUL for everything, the good and the difficult, for we would not know one without the other.
