Greetings, Community Partners –
I hope all is well with each of you. I am extremely excited to share updates with you this month. The primary focus of LSC-Houston North is equity and I am proud of the progress that has been made over the past 14 months.
For this edition of our newsletter, I want to share with you the progress that has been made towards the completion of the new LSC-Houston North Fallbrook location as well as improvements we are making to our existing college buildings. Part of our push for equity is ensuring that our students continue to have access to high quality facilities within their communities.
I wish each of you well. Once we can safely gather together, I look forward to having each of you at our facilities so you will be able to see the many improvements made over the past year.

Lone Star College-Houston North Fallbrook
|
|
We are excited to have the LSC-Houston North Fallbrook location completed soon. As of right now, we are planning a series of registration rallies that will take place during the months of November and December in preparation of Spring 2021 classes. This 51,000 sq ft facility will be state-of-the-art in many ways. Below are a few features.
- There will be nine traditional classrooms. All are smaller than the normal LSC standards and will seat a maximum of 24 students. However, note at LSC-Houston North, we pride ourselves in small classes capping all at 20.
- We will have four computer classrooms. One will be a Macintosh lab for our Mobile App and Design program, and another will be designed for our upcoming Gaming Simulation program.
- One room will be a state-of-the-art collaboration-based classroom. See picture below for an example.
- We will have a warehouse lab for our Logistics Management program. The location will have a command center that will consist of six monitors along with a conveyor belt and shelving. We will use this lab to keep all CARE Center inventory. Students will learn logistics by operating an actual warehouse.
- Our Student Services area will be centralized and will include a large welcome desk. In addition, the entire lobby is outfitted with Bluetooth enabled speakers.
- For our students, all furniture within our lobby and open study areas will include outlets for phone chargers.
- All classrooms will be WebEx enabled meaning we can essentially stream from any of them
Students attending LSC-HN Fallbrook will be able to complete the following programs:
- Associate of Arts
- Associate of Science
- Associate of Arts in Teaching (Education/Teacher Preparation)
- Associate of Applied Science and Certificate I in Logistics Management
- Associate of Applied Science in Mobile App Design
- Associate of Applied Science and Certificate II in Game Design
- Associate of Applied Science in Esports

We are also very close to completing several renovation projects at our LSC-HN Fairbanks location that will enable students to have additional program options. Below are a few of the updates.
-
We have completed the development of a new Drafting-based computer lab to support our Certificate I and Associate of Applied Science programs in Mechanical Design.
- Our new Chemistry lab is scheduled for completion in December. This will enable our students to complete an Associate of Science degree.
- Our first-floor restroom area has been renovated to include a family restroom.
- Individuals riding down HWY 290 can now see our new electronic monument sign.
- A landscaping project has also been completed that will result in more trees near the street. These trees will be used for noise control and to bring a fresh look to the location.
-
A fully operational CARE Center is also being placed at the location to provide household and food products for students.

Lone Star College-Houston North Greenspoint

This building is one of our system’s older locations and has served many purposes including the original system office. I am very proud of many of the renovations taking place that will enable us to better serve our students and community.
A few updates are below.
- We are upgrading our third floor to include a large meeting space. Once completed, we will be able to comfortably host up to 80 people for meetings or events.
- We are redesigning our front entrance space to include a welcome desk for the purpose of improving our customer service to students.
- In order to have key personnel at the location, we are renovating to add several new offices. Some of this work has been completed, but once finished, this location will serve as our central hub for our Executive Team, Community Relations Department, and several of our administrative services.
- During this past year, we renovated an area so this location can have our largest CARE Center. We are currently restocking the space in preparation of our food assistance services we will provide starting in November.

This facility is our largest at LSC-Houston North and is about to become larger. The 85,000 sq ft facility will have a 20,000 sq ft addition. The planning for this new facility is currently underway. While the final designs have yet to be made, we are looking at some key needs for our students and community.
The considerations include:
- Large meeting space/conference center to host our various community-based events.
- Science labs to ensure that our Associate of Arts and Criminal Justice students can complete their degrees at the location.
- Additional classroom space to support the expansion of our Welding and HVAC programs to offer full Associate of Applied Science programs instead of just Certificate 1 degree.
- We are in the process of bringing Pipe-fitting to this location.
- Last year, we placed a CARE Center at this location, and it was the most frequently utilized out of all our locations.
- In the end, this work will result in $14 million worth of renovations/additions to our LSC-Houston North communities.
In addition to our facility projects, we have several other exciting updates to share as noted below.

Many of the services that we can provide to our students are available via funds raised through the Lone Star College Foundation. During the pandemic, we were able to provide $45,000 worth of assistance to students in the form of emergency funds, technology assistance, or food support. What is great about our LSC Foundation is that all funds donated go directly to students. Lone Star College covers all other overhead costs. If you are interested in supporting our student assistance efforts, you can go to LoneStar.edu/giving and take the following steps.
-
Click “Donate” at the top of the page.
-
Click “Donate Now” at the top of the next page.
-
Choose the option “Give to College Programs”.
-
From the drop-down menu, select “LSC-Houston North Presidential Support Fund (Panther Pact)”
Our equity-based mission is designed to expand the discussions beyond the focus to just improve academic preparation. Instead, we want to show that if we can provide the type of support that can address some of the out-of-class challenges in addition to traditional academic supports. We believe that when our students can focus just on learning, then they can achieve their personal and professional goals. We have been fortunate to help students, but much of the assistance has been through funds from our LSC Foundation.

LSC-Houston North students eligible to receive a $500 Walmart gift card
The Gulf Coast Community Services Association, Inc. (GCCSA) has announced that it will provide up to $300,000 in aid to eligible Lone Star College-Houston North students who have been negatively impacted by COVID-19.
“We have some of the hardest-working and most resilient students in the entire Lone Star College system,” said Dr. Quentin Wright, LSC-Houston North President.
“However, when there are social and economic disruptions such as what has happened with COVID-19, they are often disproportionately impacted,” Wright said. “The help from Gulf Coast Community Services Association. will go a long way in helping these students get through this period.”

8-Week 2 Classes Start October 21
|
|
With the delayed starts for some school districts and the COVID-19 related trends, we understand that there may be some individuals that want to delay their enrollment in later in the semester.
Fortunately, LSC-Houston North’s 8-week model will allow for students that do not enroll in August to still have classes this fall. The second 8-week term will start on October 21 and end December 13.

Did You Know?
At LSC-Houston North we put students first. Each first time in college student receives a faculty mentor to help guide them through their first year of college. Research indicates that effective mentoring is one of the most powerful relationships for influencing human behavior.
Sometimes, all a student need is someone to lend a caring ear. Just being able to speak to someone and share troubles, feelings, emotions and fears has a way of making these issues seem smaller. Our mentors are in place to provide guidance for our students and steer them in the right direction.
