Hello GW,

In an effort to support our community, the Campaign GW interns are introducing a newsletter to share activities and events with you all. Hopefully this will give you something to focus on during your Blackboard lectures once the meme pages grow old. We’ll be sharing ideas about sustainability at home, entertaining activities that can be done remotely, and some mental health resources. We ultimately want this newsletter to serve as a central point for our community while our eco reps are scattered around the world, and we welcome your thoughts and ideas.

If you know friends, family members, or peers who may be interested in receiving this newsletter, please share this sign-up link with them. The more the merrier!

We hope that you are able to stay safe and healthy, and please don’t hesitate to reach out to us with questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

The Campaign GW Team

tomorrow night: join CGW for Earth Hour.

This year, Campaign GW is offering everyone who participates in Earth Hour a chance to win free GW merch! Simply take a photo or video of you celebrating between 8:30-9:30 your local time on Saturday, March 28th . This might include you turning off lights in your house, doing things by candlelight, appreciating the moon & stars; anything you can think of!

Post your sustainable activities of the night to any social media site and tag us @campaigngw . You'll be entered into a drawing to win a free GW blanket, cup, or water bottle that will be mailed to you. We can't wait to see how you celebrate!
tips for transitioning to online classes.

Never taken an online class before? It can feel a little daunting, so here are some tricks from the CGW interns to help you stay on track during this chaotic (but temporary) period

Create a workspace for yourself. Doing classwork in bed can lead to lower productivity and disrupt your sleep schedule, so setting up your computer in another room may make a big difference.
Stick to a schedule. You’ve probably heard it already from your professors, but it really will help! Of course, though, if your 8am class isn’t a live lecture, don’t be afraid to do your work at 2pm instead.
Use a calendar or planner. Keep track of your assignments and due dates, especially given that many of them have probably changed.

If you find that you are falling behind or struggling in any way, reach out to your professors or TAs. This transition is hard, but your professors are likely to be more flexible, so talk to them if you need help.
Remember to take breaks. Without a regular class structure, it might feel easy to plow through hours of work in one sitting, but you will retain more information and work more effectively if you take 15 minute breaks every hour or so.
so, what do we do now?

While most of us are stuck at home, we need to find creative ways to avoid going stir-crazy. CGW is offering activities to do in the abundance of free time many of us now have, like: book and movie recommendations, craft ideas, remote volunteer opportunities, and sustainability-related projects.
LINKS OF THE WEEK:

VIRTUAL VOLUNTEERING:
If you’re looking for ways to give back to your community from home, the Crisis Text Line is always looking for new volunteers. You can apply to become a remote Crisis Counselor, which involves an online training program. Once you’ve been trained (for free!), you commit to just 4 hours of volunteering each week, which makes this a low-commitment way of helping others over the computer.
FEEL OVERWHELMED BY COVID-19?
Take a second to read this article: 10 Ways to Reduce Your Coronavirus Anxiety . It features advice from Dr. Harriet Lerner, a psychologist and author who has struggled with anxiety herself, and may help put things into perspective.

If guided meditation is more your speed, you can also sign up for free online meditation workshops from the Smithsonian.

The website virusanxiety.com is another excellent toolkit that has tips for dealing with financial fears, navigating isolation, and practicing self-care.
