Colonial Downs trophies

In our continual quest to tell the story of TGSF and remind people that we're still here... TGSF will be sponsoring the winning owner trophies for the Colonial Downs, Saratoga and Aqueduct jumps races this summer!

This sponsorship is thanks to a kind and generous donor who has pledged to continue this gift for the next five years.

We hope you'll be fortunate enough to take one home with you this summer.
NSA summer kickoff set for Colonial Downs, Saratoga

$1.39 million in prize money is up for grabs in the National Steeplechase Association summer season at the flat tracks, which begins on Friday.

The first of 25 races spread over 16 dates during the next two months at Colonial Downs in New Kent, Va., and Saratoga Race Course in Upstate New York is only days away.

The summer season, which runs from July 14 through Sept. 8, offers steeplechasing the opportunity to broaden its appeal to a wider fan base, especially at Saratoga, the highest profile race meet in the U.S. All 25 races will be part of the flat-racing cards at Colonial on Fridays and Saratoga on Wednesdays. At both meets, the jump races will be at the beginning of the day. Post times at Colonial are 12:15 p.m. and 12:50 p.m. At Saratoga it’s 1:10 p.m.

Sad news out of Virginia this week:

Gordy Keys has passed away. Gordy was a steeplechase owner as well as a flat owner and breeder. He was on the Virginia Fall Races committee. Gordy was also a respected breeder of Angus cattle.

We'll pass along more info as we hear it. Our thoughts are with Gordy's friends and family.

NYRA Dedicates New Backstretch Healthcare Clinic At Saratoga Race Course

The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) today joined Assemblymember Carrie Woerner, philanthropist John Hendrickson and representatives from Saratoga Hospital, the Backstretch Employee Service Team (BEST) and the New York Thoroughbred Horseman's Association (NYTHA) for a ribbon-cutting to celebrate the opening of the new Saratoga Backstretch Clinic at historic Saratoga Race Course.

The Saratoga Backstretch Clinic will allow Saratoga Hospital and BEST to expand on the existing healthcare services offered to members of NYRA's backstretch community. Located just inside Gate 16, the backstretch clinic was constructed over the past year to replace a doublewide trailer that previously housed on-site healthcare services at Saratoga Race Course.
