Remembering Diana
We remember and honor our beloved volunteer, Diana Eilers.
She brought an unmistakable spark of joy and laughter into this world, brightening any room with her warmth and unmistakable presence. At The HUB, she shared that light so generously—through her years of service, her deep friendships, and the care she gave so freely. She truly helped shape the heart of this community. Our fashion shows won’t be the same without her.
Through Diana, we also experienced the extraordinary care of Celia’s House—not just as a mission we support, but from the deeply personal perspective of family and friends. In those tender days, we witnessed firsthand the compassion, dignity, and kindness that define Celia’s House. The staff and volunteers offered not only exceptional care but also a sense of peace, comfort, and genuine human connection that will never be forgotten.
Though we will deeply miss her presence, Diana’s spirit of creativity, humor, and wholehearted living remains woven into the fabric of The HUB, Celia’s House, and the lives of all who loved her. Her life was a gift to this community, and she will be remembered with great affection and gratitude.
In honor of Diana’s life and the care that meant so much to her, please consider donating to the Care Fund in her loving memory:

Volunteer Appreciation
Please join us in thanking and celebrating our incredible volunteers. They are the heart of The HUB, and we sincerely appreciate each one of them. From sorting donations and creating beautiful displays to assisting customers, supporting events, and offering a warm, welcoming presence, our volunteers make it all possible.
Our 65 volunteers bring a rich mix of life experiences and talents, including backgrounds in nursing, education, mechanics, fashion, science, the arts, and technology. They have lived and worked across the country and around the world, helping make The HUB, The Hospice Unique Boutique, truly unique.
We also extend our thanks to Muna at Lovejoy’s Tea Room for hosting a lovely afternoon. We are deeply grateful.

Celia's House Nurses
Diane Augustine, Rose Barnum, Brenda Candenasso, Aimee Goseland, Caraway Timmins, Christina Williams
In the peaceful halls of Celia’s House, our nurses' work rarely makes headlines. There are no dramatic rescues or crowded emergency rooms. Instead, there are twelve residents, each living their final chapters, and a handful of registered nurses who show up every day knowing that the smallest moments matter.
When Rose starts her shift, she receives the same reminder she gives every new nurse at Celia’s House: “We are here to take care of others through our connected humanity.”
Celia’s House is not a hospital. It is not an assisted living facility. The nonprofit residence is a warm home with sunlight glistening through the windows, family photos on dressers, and the aroma of coffee brewing in the kitchen. Each of our six nurses cares for terminally ill individuals and their families. They know every detail: who likes to play chess, whose favorite breakfast is an old-fashioned donut, who prefers orange juice with medications, and who enjoys classical music in the evening.
Nurses direct resident care, document plans, and provide constant coordination with hospice partners and family members. However, the heart of their work is less measurable. It is remembering that one resident sleeps better with a quilt. It’s about being the people for residents when they don’t have people. It’s about noticing the subtle differences that signal when a loved one needs extra support. It’s about community and a sense of belonging.
When families and volunteers look back at their experience, they remember how it felt. Not just that their loved one was cared for, but that, in a vulnerable time, they were truly seen. That’s the quiet impact our nurses have. They make every single day profoundly human and dignified for our residents and their loved ones.
“I love working here because of the care we provide and the culture that we embody.”—Brenda Candenasso
“After almost 44 years of saving lives as a critical care nurse, I have so much gratification at Celia’s House because it is making the most intimate point of someone’s life as peaceful as possible.” –Diane Augustine
“End-of-life care is multifaceted and encompasses the support of dying individuals and their families while fostering authentic connection and meaningful moments as a journey comes to a close, but a legacy continues.”—Christina Williams

| | "I was utterly astonished at the amazing care my friend received in her last weeks of life while she stayed at Celia's House. The house is clean, bright, and feels like a home. Yet, the most valuable asset this home offers is its top-notch staff. They are kind, attentive, and empathetic individuals who genuinely care about their residents and take any necessary means to ensure their comfort." - D | | | Every month, the following individuals make the Southern Oregon Friends of Hospice E-newsletter possible: Alexandria Castelo, Cheryl French, Dwight Wilson, Kendra Lellis, Lara Knackstedt, Rebecca Reid, and Steve Roe | | | | |
