Expressions of Interest Now Open for 2020, 2021, and 2022 FEI North American Youth Championships
From the US Equestrian Communications Department
|
|
Lexington, Ky
. – The US Equestrian Federation (US Equestrian) is accepting
Expressions of Interest
(EOI) for the 2020, 2021, and 2022 FEI North American Youth Championships (NAYC) for Dressage and Jumping, in addition to a Team Championship held at the FEI levels for Juniors and Young Riders for Eventing. US Equestrian must receive EOIs on or before Friday, May 31, 2019, by 5 p.m. EDT for consideration.
US Equestrian will accept EOIs from event organizers to host one individual discipline championship, a combination of discipline championships, or a full combined championship with all three disciplines. US Equestrian has the discretion to award NAYC for single or multiple years. The FEI has final approval on the allocation of the NAYC for Jumping and Dressage competitions. US Equestrian may give preference to submitted applications offering multiple discipline championships. While keeping all the disciplines together is preferred, US Equestrian will consider each application on its merits.
The purpose of conducting a host site bid selection process is to provide US Equestrian with a group of potential venues from which to choose a facility that offers the appropriate amenities worthy of hosting the FEI NAYC for Dressage, Jumping, and an Eventing Junior and Young Rider Team Championship.
For more information about the discipline specific requirements, please visit
USequestrian.org
. Submitted EOIs are not a legally binding document and do not create any legal obligations between US Equestrian and the Organizer. US Equestrian is not responsible for undelivered applications.

AMHA Annual Report
Now Available
|
|
|
The AMHA Board, after much discussion and sadness decided to cancel the 2021 convention. The convention in San Antonio brought only 130 participants. Though claimed by many to be one of the best conventions in many a year, the numbers did not match that conviction. The board felt it was financially not in the best interests of AMHA to continue with a yearly or biannual convention of our own. Next year we will be partnering with the UPHA convention in Lexington, Kentucky, and a 2021 gathering is a work in progress.

AMHA Board Meeting Update
From Carol Fletcher
|
|
Spring has sprung in the Pacific Northwest! You know beautiful spring flowers and shedding hair EVERYWHERE! I am sure all of your shedding blades are out in full force! I know some of you are dealing with flooding. Take care and stay safe.
I just returned from our second quarter board meeting in Portland Maine. We had a great meeting and the highlight was going to Pineland Farms and seeing the new site of the Morgan Horse Museum. AMAZING, is an understatement of how perfect this spot is for our museum. The museum pieces are perfectly showcased. Rick Lane is there with live beautiful Morgans for everyone to see, including “Nelson,” who is the official Morgan greeter. And he is perfect for the job.
I wanted to update everyone on the Western Regions two regional horse shows.
C-Fair Charity Morgan Regional and Open Horse Show,
August 1-4, 2019 in Monroe, Washington, and
Morgan Medallion
has moved venues and dates. They have moved to South Point in Las Vegas and changed the dates to July 18-21, 2019. Let’s make sure we all support our Regional horse shows!!
As you all know our world is a little darker. On April 2 we have lost Alex Mooney. She was everyone’s daughter, granddaughter, sister, and friend. She was the most amazing and strong I have ever known. She had tremendous courage and was such a ray of sunshine. She inspired all of us to be better and her positive attitude was infectious. She taught all of us how to LIVE! The show committee for the Grand National & World Championship Morgan Horse Show® is pleased to announce that a $5,000 annual memorial scholarship has been created in Alex Mooney's name. Details will be forthcoming.
Above are the highlights of our meeting.

AMHA Board of Directors
2nd Quarter Meeting Minutes
|
|
Below you will find highlights from the AMHA Board of Directors Second Quarter Meeting, which took place April 6, 2019, in Portland, Maine during. Following the Board highlights are the individual or combined “Regional Reports” from your directors.
Second Quarter Board Meeting Highlights
Bylaws:
Carol Fletcher, Committee Chair, reported on the recent activities of the Bylaws Committee. The Committee presented phase two of the Standard Operating Procedures project (SOP’s). A redline of the 2019 Directors’ guide that incorporated Standard Operating Procedures A1, A6, A7, A9, A11, A25, A34 and A36 was approved allowing the elimination of those SOPs since they are now listed within this AMHA document. In addition, it was determined that adherence to the Safe Sport policy would also added to the text of the Directors Guide. The Committee continues to review proper text to address attendance of directors at board meetings. The SOP project will continue at the next Bylaws Committee meeting with the continuing evaluation of the remaining SOPs.
Registry:
Committee Chair, C.A. Lee, III, gave the Registry report that included registry statistics that were on par at the same pace compared to 2018. The Registry Committee further reviewed Rule 3H regarding the number of name changes allowed per horse and decided to leave as currently written. The Broodmare Hall of Fame program was discussed and it was determined that the designation would be included on the online registry but would not be included on the actual registration certificate at this time due to the cost of software fees involved. Certificates will be issued to the 63 original BHOF designees as well as future achievers.
Finance Report:
Vice President of Finance, Kate Kirsch provided the Finance Report. After the final audit by McSoley McCoy and Company, a surplus of $77,546.87 was recorded (much higher than the projected surplus of $15,000). It was noted that $42,000 of this surplus was already placed in the Rainy Day Fund as repayment toward the original Protech software loan. The Board determined that the remaining surplus be placed in the Rainy Day Fund in anticipation of replacing the computer server and possibly the phone system in the near future. The convention reported a profit of $3,671.47 and the AMHECT/WMF Stallion Service Auction reported a net profit of $42,126.87. Fund balances and year to date financials were also reviewed. The Finance Committee was tasked with reviewing the current compensation structure including benefits for AMHA employees in order to determine if it is in line, below, or above other similar sized organizations.
Central Region Meeting:
Per the request of members at the 2019 Annual Meeting of the Members held on February 8 in San Antonio, the Board began planning a meeting of the Central Region members for the purpose of removing director Vicki Bennett from her position. However, the quote received from Survey and Ballot Systems (tabulating company) outlined a total cost of nearly $15,000. Due to the extreme cost of such an endeavor, the Board felt it was their fiduciary responsibility to cease planning of such a meeting. A letter explaining their reasoning will be mailed to all central region members shortly.
Meetings and Conventions:
Lengthy discussion was held after reviewing extensive data and evaluating risk factors associated with the planning and hosting of the annual meeting/convention. At this time, the Board did not feel the financial risk of proceeding with the 2021 Convention in Las Vegas was something they could responsibly accept. Alternate options are being considered and more information will be provided as it is available. In addition, much thought was given to the current practice of hosting four “live” board meetings. Many have reported it as being a barrier to running for a regional director position due to cost, time away, limited vacation available, etc. Options to eliminate at least one of the live meetings were discussed and the appropriate committee has been tasked with planning the 2020 meetings accordingly.
Home Office:
Executive Director Carrie Mortensen reported that the home office has been very busy since the last report at the Annual Meeting.
