Week of August 24th!

Cedar Point!!!

John's Usual --

So-- not an overwhelming number of responses to our online poll regarding the new Kenilee carpet, BUT those that responded seem to like it. We're taking it as a green light. The wheelchair accessibility project is starting to come together. All the framing is done, 95% of the drywall is hung, the electric work is done & approved. We're still waiting for the plumbing inspections, but the work is done.

Once it's approved, then we can really start on the stuff that will make the biggest visual impact. It will be tight, but I think we're still on track for leagues to start the last week of September & open bowling in October!

As you can see from all the pictures-- a number of people spent the day at Cedar Point earlier this week. That's always a good time.

I still want for CLI to plan a couple islands trips this fall so that we can get people on the water who didn't get to do boat rides with All Ports Yacht Club or learn to sail with the Sandusky Sailing Club's adaptive program. There are very few things as refreshing as a warm fall ferry ride on Lake Erie.

Only one more week until Labor Day. This summer certainly went quick! Have a great weekend!

What's new in THRIVE?

This week we had everyone watch an interview of two staff members. This has worked out great!

We wanted everyone to be able to see what a good interview is and a bad interview in person.

We also have been working hard on words of the week as we want to be able to keep learning new words!

Demo Derby at the Huron County Fair!

Firelands Local LLC

The workshop provides a safe space to learn new job task-- both to broaden abilities, but also to see what people like to do-- whether that's big "gross motor" tasks like baling cardboard and boatwrap, or "fine motor" tasks like product assembly.

CLI & FL work together to provide an array of employment training options both in the workshop and out in the community.

If any other Firelands Local employees (besides Andrew & Zeth) would like to be featured in this section of the newsletter-- send in your work pics!

The Latest from The Good Works Cafe (GWC)--

GWC Volunteers have put together a delicious & free community meal every Friday, served at the Norwalk Veteran's Memorial Lake Park Clubhouse since 2020! Time flies. Thank you to everyone who has supported this program with donations of money & food!

We are incredibly grateful for the support, generosity, and partnerships we have received from our community over the past 6 years. Unfortunately, after much consideration Good Works Cafe will be coming to an end, with our last day of service being September 25th.

CLI will continue to be involved in our local community and dedicate our time and talents to the service of others. We're always looking for new ideas!

Shared Videos of the Week:

DODDD shared a video that debuted at the third annual Accessible Ohio Conference & Expo on August 13, 2026, showcasing the partnership between the Accessible Ohio (AO) Program and the North Fairfield Improvement Group.

The North Fairfield Improvement Group consulted with AO to make the community park in North Fairfield more accessible for children, families, and visitors. A small, dedicated group transformed their local space step by step—adding accessible paths, adaptive play features, and thoughtful design elements that make the park easier and more enjoyable for everyone.

The video reflects how accessibility comes to life in practical, everyday ways and celebrates the impact that committed communities can have when they prioritize disability inclusion.

R.I.P three

2016 CLI vans this week!

Thanks to a grant from the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT)-- CLI has 3 new wheelchair vans to replace three of our oldest non-wheelchair models. So this week we said goodbye to the "Blue", the "Orange" & the "Silver"
