Hello!
We are excited to share Episode 3 of the J3P Health Leadership Lab, featuring the continuation of our conversation with Colonel Randall Wickman, newly appointed President of J3P Health’s consulting practice.
In this episode, Randall dives into the most common leadership challenges in healthcare, highlighting one critical theme: time.
Clinicians and leaders at every level are stretched between delivering care and managing the organizational demands that ensure long-term success. This tension often leads to internal friction, inefficiency, and increased stress, usually without leaders realizing it because they are immersed in the day-to-day.
Randall also offers straightforward, actionable solutions that healthcare leaders can implement immediately, without consultants or extensive training. His advice centers on:
- Understanding your role in the organizational structure
- Clarifying responsibilities at each echelon strategic, functional, and tactical
- Aligning goals and decisions to the organization’s top level vision and plan
- Creating simple systems and metrics so everyone can see how their work connects to the broader mission
Using an academic medical department as an example, he illustrates how chairs, vice chairs, division chiefs, and frontline faculty can all work more effectively by aligning their responsibilities and time to the organization’s overarching priorities.
This conversation sets the stage for our next episode, where we will begin outlining practical, easy to implement operational frameworks that leaders can put into practice right away.
Enjoy Episode 3 and stay tuned for more.
