Veteran's Garden
West Bridgewater's Veterans Garden has been flourishing! They grow all sorts of things from vegetables to flowers. Garden volunteers just recently picked strawberries, lettuce, and kale and cleaned them off in the Veterans Kitchen so they could be eaten and enjoyed. Veteran's Garden Inc stated that the purpose of their garden is to "help Veterans overcome the invisible wound of war by providing a quiet setting where they can grow and heal as they garden, landscape and interact with other Veterans." The garden is looking beautiful! We greatly appreciate those who take care of it.

Center Tree Stone
The Center Tree Stone serves as a marker to distinguish the town line between West Bridgewater and East Bridgewater. This four-foot-high granite stone has been located on the town line since 1827.
In 1645, the Court at Plymouth began providing grants to those interested in purchasing land from Native Americans.
In 1649, three committeemen met with Ousemaquin (Massasoit) at Sachem's Rock, which is known as East Bridgewater today. The men signed a document to purchase the area, the center being fixed at Satucket Weir.
In 1651, 18 families had arrived and settled in what is West Bridgewater today. They set up on the banks of the Nunkatesset river, which is known as the Town River today.
In 1827, the Center Tree Stone was placed between East Bridgewater and West Bridgewater to recognize where each town ends and begins.

Climate Can-Do: Hydration in the Heat and Refillable Water Bottles
Summer is finally here! Warmer weather, more time outside, and an increase in physical activity…all of which lead to us being thirstier. Drinking enough water throughout the day is always important – our bodies are 50% to 70% water ( Mayo Clinic) – and with the hot weather in the coming months, it is especially crucial to avoid dehydration. However, our hydration doesn’t need to come at the expense of our environment. According to Ban the Bottle, Americans throw away 35 billion plastic bottles every year. Additionally, only 5% of our plastics ( Greenpeace) get recycled; the rest end up in trash heaps, or are litter and many end up in the ocean.
Refillable water bottles make a real difference close to home; in our drinking water; in our rivers; and right down to the ocean. By switching to refillables instead of buying single-use bottles, you are: cutting down on oil usage needed to manufacture the plastic water bottles; decreasing CO2 put out into the atmosphere through production; reducing landfill waste ( University of Colorado Boulder); and decreasing the likelihood of nanoplastics in our tap. You’re also saving money and time by not buying a plastic water bottle every time you’re out and about -$1.25 may not seem like much, but it definitely adds up! If tap water isn’t for you, a filtered water dispenser and a reusable water bottle will soon pay for themselves as you consider the cost of bottled water. Most importantly: Refillable water bottles can decrease pollution in our oceans – the same ones we love to swim in over the summer. It’s an important Climate Can Do to reduce personal plastic waste; opt for refillable bottles instead of single-use plastic ones so we and our environment can flourish!

A huge congratulations to the West Bridgewater Girls MA Youth Soccer Team who won the state championship! After playing five matches over the weekend at the Massachusetts Tournament of Champions, the team secured their title at the end with the team dedication and effort of coaches and players. Despite the early Friday games, Saturday rain, and Sunday heat, the girls finished with shutouts in 4 out of 5 games and a 1-1 tie in the remaining match. What an amazing accomplishment!
