Q&A with Robert

How do you like to start your workday?

A large cup of coffee while walking around the office telling everyone good morning!

Where did you go to college?

University of Arkansas – Fayetteville

What do you like most about your job or career

There is no better feeling than helping folks realize that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Nobody likes dealing with tax and legal issues, but my goal is to cut through the minutia and jargon and give folks palpable steps to achieve their hopes and dreams.

Which historical figure would you like to meet?

James Madison. I have so many questions for the father of the US Constitution.

Who has inspired your career path most in your life?

I always knew that I wanted to be an attorney and so many people encouraged me and supported me on that journey. My grandmother Judy Taylor, CPA (“Mimi”) worked for Kin Campbell, CPA for over 30 years. Kin and David merged their accounting practices over 3 years ago and I have been with Pickler Accounting Advisors since February 28, 2022. Without my grandmother encouraging me, I never would have taken the chance on tax work and would have likely solely focused on the law.

Are you a sports fan? Who are your favorite teams?

I'm a HUGE sports fan! Arkansas Razorbacks, Dallas Cowboys, St. Louis Cardinals, and the San Antonio Spurs have my heart.

What’s your favorite thing to do to relax after a stressful work week?

Head up to Fayetteville with Ashley and Parker for some Razorback sporting event!

If you were stuck on a deserted island with two books, what would they be?

The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoevsky & The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexander Dumas

What career advice would you give your younger self?

Get your accounting degree while in undergrad and don’t be afraid of the more boring subjects!

Who are two people that you look up to and why?

My grandfathers – Robert Taylor and Danny Hale. I am so lucky to be named after two outstanding men that have taught me so much about hard work and being fair and honest in everything you do. They both would do anything at the drop of a hat for their families and friends and I hope to continue their legacy by always being there for those that need me.

What’s the number one thing on your bucket list?

Watch a game at all 30 MLB ballparks

What’s your favorite movie?

The Big Short – Adam McKay

What’s one professional skill you’ve nailed and one you’re working on building?

One professional skill I've mastered is research—give me a deadline along with a legal or tax question, and I’ll find the answer. On the other hand, patience is something I’m still working on building, if you have ever been on hold with the IRS then you know what I’m talking about.

Do you have any pets?

I have a dapple Dachshund named Gray Grey.

What’s your favorite family tradition?

Thanksgiving! We eat a late lunch (feast) while watching the Dallas Cowboys game and then end the day with the whole family at the movie theatre. Christmas decorations usually come out after the movie or the very next morning.

What is a goal you have for the next year?

Acquiring more certifications so I can do more comprehensive work for our clients – e.g. series 7, VA accreditation, law license in neighboring states, etc.

What was your first job?

I was a soccer referee at age 14

Lastly, what's the best piece of advice anyone has ever given you?

Always be kind. People forget a lot, but they always remember who treated them fairly.
