Tazzarin North to Nunatsiavut

Baked Goods and Notre Dame Bay

1730 Tuesday, August 15, 2023

Annie and I got going a bit later than usual. We also knew that we could not depart until the marina office opened and we could settle up for our dockage. We also wanted to thank Sheena, the office manager, and Brian, the marina manager for their cheery help during our stay.

The other reason to leave a bit later was Kinden's Bakery & Cafe near the marina entrance; we had heard they had yummy things. Kinden's opened at 1000 and we were there at the counter. Annie had a hot mocha, I had hot chocolate and we each had a big cinnamon bun to top off the morning.

The day was cool, cloudy and moist as we left under power heading into a northeast breeze as we headed out Notre Dame Bay. A fog bank seemed to be chasing us the whole way out of the bay; but never caught us. So, we had good visibility of the slew of enchanting islands of this stellar cruising area. Even on a gray day, beauty was everywhere, tiny islets with rocks, trees and lush green dells. Mounded Sugar Loaf Island had streaks of white quartz bursting through the shoreline.

On the wheel, Annie seemed happy with the day. We finished under sail weaving in and out amongst islets with enticing channels in every direction. Tonight we are tucked in the head of a winding cove called Western Harbour on South Sampson Island. A nice start to cruising with Annie.

In the next day or two, I will try and give an update on engine maintenance and a bit of sail repair. I know a few of you always like such things!
