As a way to encourage exercise and green transportation, Independent Health and Shared Mobility, Inc. have once again teamed up to offer the 10th season of the popular Reddy Bikeshare program.
Since the launch of the program in 2016, nearly 96,000 Reddy bike riders have pedaled for 690,923 miles, which is equal to circling the globe 27 times.
For 2025, Western New York residents and visitors can find up to 500 GPS-enabled Reddy and Reddy+ electric pedal-assist bikes available for short-term, shared use at 115 stations across the cities of Buffalo, Niagara Falls and Tonawanda. Here’s how the Reddy Bikeshare program works:
1. Sign up – Visit Google Play or the App Store to download the Social Bicycles (SoBi) app for free on your mobile device or on the web. Then choose your pass to get started. Ensure that your phone’s GPS/Location Services are enabled to find available bikes nearby.
2. Reserve a bike – Use the app to reserve a bike or scan the QR code on the back of the bike using the SoBi app to unlock. Remember to ride safely and obey all traffic laws.
3. Enjoy your time – You can make multiple stops during your ride without a parking fee. Press the “HOLD” button or in the SoBi app and lock the bike to a rack.
4. Lock – When you reach your destination, lock the bike and check your SoBi app to ensure your trip has ended.
All Independent Health members can once again save 20% on annual passes. To learn how to register for an annual pass as well as view prices and a map of Reddy bike stations, visit the Reddy Bikeshare website.
In addition, with May being National Bike Month, our partners at GObike are offering a variety of events this month. Look for our RedShirts® on select dates with free giveaways, while supplies last. For everything related to Bike Month, visit our website.
