PLE Work Group Joins 2025 Homeless Point-in-Time Count
On January 30, 2025, members of the PLE Workgroup—Bruce Wright, Frank Pettis, Tyrona Warren, and Billy Coleman—joined more than 100 volunteers in the annual Homeless Point-in-Time (PIT) Count. This vital effort, led by the Lake County Coalition for the Homeless in collaboration with Lake County Community Development, assesses the number of sheltered and unsheltered individuals experiencing homelessness on a single night.
Volunteers worked overnight, teaming up in groups to canvass designated areas by vehicle and on foot. They provided care packages containing essentials such as hats, gloves, blankets, hand warmers, and protein bars to those they encountered. Additionally, individuals were offered transportation to a local shelter and connected with resources for further assistance.
Last year’s PIT Count revealed a 50% increase in homelessness in Lake County compared to 2023, with 85% of individuals experiencing homelessness for the first time and a 75% rise in family homelessness. These insights help inform resource allocation and highlight the urgent need for housing solutions.
PLE Workgroup members not only participated in the count but also attended training sessions and supported ongoing efforts to assist the unhoused. Their involvement aligns with two Live Well Lake County objectives: enhancing accessibility of community resources and raising awareness of the growing need for affordable housing and homelessness assistance.
By taking part in the PIT Count, the PLE Workgroup reaffirmed its commitment to addressing homelessness and advocating for meaningful change in Lake County.
