Greetings!
2021 is off to a very rapid start! We are nearly halfway through the year already. Time sure does fly when you are having fun!!!
We are very blessed to see more of our members coming back to the Club in person. Their laughter and joy are beginning to fill the Club again. Seeing the smiles and excitement in their eyes, as they socialize and engage with their peers, brings happiness to our BGCBN team.
Beyond the smiles, joy, laughter and happiness, we must remain steadfast in our commitment to safety. The safety I speak of is much more than just the physical safety of our youth. Safety also includes the social, emotional and mental safety, not only of our youth, but for all people.
Our entire Nation is experiencing a great amount of trauma through all that is going on in our world. We see this through the media, but we also experience this trauma in our very own community. We must all work in partnership with one another to continue to grow stronger.
We invite each of you to stand shoulder to shoulder with us, your Boys & Girls Club family, to set a positive example for the youth in our community. The youth in our community are looking to us for guidance; they are looking to us for understanding; and they are looking to us for leadership. What example do we want our youth to see? What types of individuals do we want the future leaders of our community to become?
Real, lasting change takes collaboration, big ideas and bold action. Together, we can make a difference and create real social change!

I CARE! We Care,

On March 13, 2020, the world as we knew it turned upside down. We had lost the ability to hang out with friends. Where we could go was limited due to state restrictions. Businesses had to find ways to survive or be forced to shut their doors forever. Our youth had to learn how to turn on a camera and fix any technical issues they have while on Zoom. Teachers had to turn 180 degrees and change all their lesson plans to virtual. Our classrooms, instead of having desks and classmates next to them, were transformed to students working from couches and beds. Everything changed. The Boys & Girls Club was no exception... What a joy it is to hear the laughter of children at the Club again! Shortly after Spring Break both of our major school districts opened their doors to in-person learning. I cannot begin to describe the gambit of emotions, feelings, and actions that this decision spurred in us. First, the logistics – how are we going to serve the same number of kids we served two days a week, increase to four or five days a week, and maintain safety measures? We need more staff, more space, and more time. Already in the process of hiring our summer staff, this piece was completed quickly. We added four new staff to our team, on-boarding and getting them working directly with our kids in record time. We analyzed the two accessible buildings and are now utilizing every space as a classroom. In addition, we secured additional grant funding that allows us to open three hours earlier than before to accommodate the various school dismissal schedules. Opening up after COVID was a major shift for us. We created Clubs within a classroom to limit the amount of transition throughout our facility. This left very little opportunity to meet new friends and build supportive relationships with our team. (read more)
