Your influence extends far beyond New Jersey, evidenced by your leadership roles on the National Black Chamber of Commerce, the US Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia’s Economic Community Advisory Council, and numerous other prestigious boards, including Investors Bank and Hackensack Meridian Health.

In selecting recipients for this distinguished honor, we seek to recognize individuals who embody our values of innovation, perseverance, and leadership.” Merodie A. Hancock, Ph.D., President, Thomas Edison State University.

John, the conferral of an honorary degree by an accredited college or university represents one of the highest honors an academic institution can bestow. It is granted in recognition of exceptional leadership, lifetime achievement, and distinguished contributions to society that reflect the core values and mission of higher education.

Although not equivalent to an earned doctoral degree, the honorary doctorate signifies the enduring impact of an individual’s work and their alignment with the standards of excellence upheld by the academic community.

To be awarded multiple honorary degrees—such as four—is a rare and distinguished recognition, reflecting a sustained record of excellence, influence, and service within a chosen field of endeavor. The invitation to address graduates and future scholars further affirms the role as a thought leader and torchbearer of wisdom, vision, and integrity.

Such recognition is not only a celebration of past achievements, but also a call to continued service—a testament to the transformative power of purpose, perseverance, and the lasting difference one life can make. – Dr. Ken L. Harris, Ph.D., President & CEO, The National Business League
