Remembering Mike Kaminsky
Michael Kaminsky was born on September 7, 1967 in Cheverly, MD, and was the only son of Yaroslav and Barbara (Chaimson) Kaminsky of Oak Hill, VA.
“Mike” was a fun-loving, big-hearted guy who was devoted to his family and had hundreds of friends who truly loved him. His sisters looked up to him as a hero and guiding force for the family and were dedicated to his care over the past year.
Mike loved meeting friends at the beach, seeing live concerts, and going snowboarding. There is nothing he wouldn’t do for a friend or loved one—from fixing your car and helping you move—to listening to a problem and traveling to visit you.
He was also a talented drummer for several local bands including Mr. Nice Guy, Liquid Therapy, Karma Elektra, Dance Manifesto, Ruckus, and Blackout Brigade. He was a member of St. Nicholas Orthodox Cathedral and held strong faith in the Lord.
Mike was known for being a highly logical and methodical thinker. He graduated from Virginia Tech with degrees in electrical engineering and computer science and worked as a computer scientist with several federal contractors. He approached every problem in work as well as life with passion, focus and intensity.
Mike fell asleep in the Lord on August 5, 2023 after a two-year battle with ALS. He is survived by a large, loving family including his parents, sisters Alexandra Babbitt (Thomas), Katherine Kaminsky and Natalie Watson (Mark), along with nephew Christopher Babbitt and nieces, Nicole Babbitt and Marina Watson.
May Mike's memory be eternal!
