A Message from ORES Principal Denise Francisco

We had a great two days back this past week!

School started 5 minutes earlier and our students (and parents) did a great job getting to school on time. As a reminder, students must be in their actual classroom (not just in the front doors of the school) by 7:40 in order to not be marked tardy. Students who ride the bus are always on time as the buses arrive between 7:15 and 7:30 so students always have enough time to get to their classroom. If you have not tried riding the bus lately, we strongly encourage you to use this form of transportation as it is reliable and allows us to have fewer cars in our car rider line each morning. If you don’t already have a designated bus stop you can have one added very easily by calling the transportation office at 336-605-3305.

Did you also know that our school serves breakfast each day? Any student can eat breakfast any day between 7:15 and 7:35 – all they must do is enter the cafeteria and go through the line just like they do at lunch time. If you are ever rushed at home and need your child to eat breakfast here at school just remind them to eat when they get to school. And, don’t forget you can add money to your child’s breakfast/lunch account by using the K-12 Payment Center.

School Spelling Bee is this Wednesday, January 9, 2019

Due to the snow-related school cancellations last December, the School Spelling Bee has been re-scheduled to Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at 8:00 AM at Rm. 500. Please contact Ms. Tuggle with any questions.

Mark your calendars! The 2019 ORE Father/Daughter dance is on Saturday, February 9, 2019

Please save the date for a great tradition -- the Oak Ridge Elementary Father/Daughter dance! Doors open at 6:30pm on Saturday, February 9th!

Invitations have been distributed and your student should have her copy soon. Here is a link to a copy of the invitation with all the details.

There are many new features for this year including exclusive online registration and payment. Here is a link to the event registration. Please don't forget to complete payment after registration. Raffle tickets will be distributed at the gym that evening.

Also, remember to keep your invitation for a 10% discount on Feb. 9th at Bella Luna Ristorante & Bar.

Attention 5th grade parents! Information on Middle School registration

The Counseling Staff would like to let you know about two informational meetings regarding the Middle School and High School registration processes. The meetings are being sponsored by the Guilford Parent Academy and the GCS Counseling Services Department on January 8 and 10, 2019.

Help keep our Oak Ridge Elementary PTO strong!

Looking forward to next school year, we are need some very important volunteers. We encourage parents of our younger students to consider stepping-up as our current volunteers have children who are getting to move on from Oak Ridge Elementary.

Sponsorship: we are looking for a committed volunteer who will work with current sponsors (and seek new ones) for commitments for the banners, newsletter and website advertising that support the PTO. The position's schedule is very flexible and most of the work is done at the beginning and end of the school year.

Chess Club Coordinator: we are in need of a volunteer to head up our weekly Wednesday morning Chess Club. Many students attend this great activity and a Coordinator is essential to keep this Club going. There is some work at the beginning of the school year with student sign-up and around tournament time. Parents of current chess club members are especially encouraged to volunteer!

These are jobs that are so integral to our PTO. We would love for at least 2 people to come on board now and shadow the volunteers currently doing these jobs. It will make it so much easier next year. Please email orespto@gmail.com if interested!!!

Important Changes to January 2019 Teacher Workdays

The following changes have been made to the Teacher Workdays (no school) for January 2019:

January 22 (Tuesday) is now a Regular School Day. This is a change from the original Teacher Workday/Parent-Teacher conference schedule.

January 28 (Monday) is now a Teacher Workday/Parent-Teacher Conference Day with No School.
