CENTENARY NEWS

A Word from the Church Council

As we begin planning programs and the budget for 2027, the Church Council will be sharing some exciting plans for Centenary in the coming weeks. But first, we have three months of ministry and building upkeep still ahead in 2026, and right now our pledged giving is falling behind what we need to finish the year well. Please take a moment to look at your 2026 pledge. If you're behind, we ask that you prayerfully consider catching up before the end of the year. If you have questions about your giving or would like a statement, contact Laura in the church office or email admin@centumc.org.

Thank you for all you give to make Centenary's ministry possible.

Soles to the Polls 2026

Centenary has once again joined the Virginia Interfaith Center for Public Policy (VICPP) in committing that 100% of Centenary members who are eligible will vote this year. The 2026 ballot is full of important Congressional races, three amendments to the Virginia constitution, and some local races and referenda. Our bulletin board on the first floor contains detailed information about the ballots, early voting, mail-in voting, and registration deadlines. Our “We’re Voting” sign is proudly displayed. If you have questions about voting information, Jane Newell will be at the table in the back of the sanctuary to talk with you!

After our service on Sunday, October 18 , our Richmond voters can walk together to City Hall to vote. This Soles to the Polls walk is about a half mile each way. If a ride is needed let Jane Newell know.

Adult Sunday School

Hodges Classroom/Room 106 (first floor) at 9:15am

October 4 - This week will be led by Pastor Emily. What do we do with a book that's ancient, complex, and sometimes confusing, yet still speaks to us as the Word of God? We'll explore Richard Rohr's What Do We Do With the Bible? and his approach to reading Scripture faithfully. No prior reading required.

October 11 - Celebrating the life of St, Francis. Born October 3, 1226, the world is celebrating the 800th anniversary of his death. Dave Kirkland will lead a class on Francis’s legacy of peace, humility, and reconciliation. Dave has studied Franciscan theology and history at Catholic University and Washington Theological Union, both located in Washington DC.

Come curious!

Wednesdays at 10:00am

on Zoom

Join Pastor Emily for a lively, open conversation around scripture — digging into the passages we'll hear in worship in the weeks ahead. Come wrestle, question, and discover together as we explore what God is doing in the world (and in us!). Want the Zoom link? Email Laura at admin@centumc.org to be added to the list.

Friday Walk In Lunch Outreach

Our Friday Walk In lunch program has been feeding the hungry for over 45 years. On September 25 we served 131 guests as volunteers from Beulah Church and Centenary prepared, served, and cleaned up.

Please keep this ministry in your prayers.

Mission

Our mission is to change the world through love.

To acknowledge God’s love is, for each of us, a life-changing event.

As followers of Jesus, we share God’s love for all people, and work together to make our world a better place, one life at a time.
