The 2nd Annual Soulful Girls Club Formal Ball
Friday, June 2nd, The Soulful Girls Club held their 2nd Annual Formal Ball! The ball was held at JPH Ferry Hill Center in Marshfield, MA. The evening began with the girls getting their hair, makeup, and nails done. This was followed by a night full of crafts, photos, dancing, singing, and so much fun! The event was superhero themed, so all that attended were invited to wear capes and masks. Crafts and snacks were also superhero inspired. The event was a huge success thanks to all of the volunteers that attended and the organizations that donated!
The Soulful Girls Club typically meets once a month on a Friday evening and is a safe space for girls with intellectual and developmental differences to get together to make crafts and dance at their location: 484 Bedford Street. Soulful Girls Club is just one of the many programs that is run by the Soul Project. They also host Soulful Girls workshops, which occur a few Sundays each month. These workshops are for young girls to connect with each other, make crafts, and learn techniques to empower themselves and grow as individuals. The next upcoming Soulful Girls workshop is Sunday, June 25th, where the girls will create vision boards with Brittany. For more information on this workshop visit Soulful Girls Workshops.
The Soul Project also hosts events for women, such as their Soulful Women's Circle. At this event, women dive deep into their emotions and find ways to empower themselves to move forward and thrive in life. The next upcoming Women's Circle is Wednesday, June 21st, where Bethany will create a safe space and guide women to help get to the core of what is causing them stress or resistance in their lives. For more information on this workshop visit Soulful Women Events.

Isaac W. Sprague -
The Original Living Skeleton
Isaac W. Sprague was born on May 21, 1841 in East Bridgewater, Massachusetts. He was a normal and active child until the age of twelve - when he began to rapidly lose weight.
His concerned parents forbade young Isaac from high energy activities. Despite this, the boy continued to lose weight and his now terrified parents took Isaac to the best doctors they could find. Unfortunately the doctors were also baffled.
As an adult, Isaac apprenticed under his father as a cobbler and later worked as a grocer. His low energy made it to hard for Isaac to work. It was then that the world of sideshow came calling.
In 1865, during a visit to a local carnival, a promoter spotted Isaac and offered him a job; Isaac accepted. He began touring as 'The Living Skeleton' and quickly rose in popularity. In less than a year he auditioned for P. T. Barnum and was hired on a salary of $80 a week.
Despite numerous medical exams during his lifetime, his condition was never officially identified. He was labeled as having 'an extreme case of progressive muscular atrophy'. As a result, Isaac was required to eat constantly. He was well-known to carry a flask of sweetened dairy milk around his neck - drinking from it to from time-to-time to keep himself alive and conscious.
He met and married a Miss Tamar Moore and had three healthy sons. He toured with Barnum and others. His financial problems ultimately resulted in Isaac dying in poverty on January 5, 1887, in Chicago.
At forty-four he had the height of five feet and six inches and weighed only forty-three pounds.

Climate Can-Do: Start Your Own Garden
With summer and the warmer weather approaching, gardening is a fun project for your family and yourself to work on together. Whether you have a green thumb or not, gardening is a great and simple hobby to take up. It also has many benefits for yourself and the Earth.
All plants go through the process of photosynthesis, which is when plants intake water and the atmosphere's carbon dioxide. In return, the plant releases fresh oxygen for us to breath and enjoy. Therefore, more plants result in more oxygen, a crucial element our bodies need!
In addition to improving our environment, gardening is proven to improve your mental health as well. Gardening has been found to lower stress and anxiety levels, as well as increase mindfulness and gratification. The Mayo Clinic Health System Website states that "It's very gratifying to plant, tend, harvest and share your own food. Routines provide structure to our day and are linked to improved mental health. Gardening routines, like watering and weeding, can create a soothing rhythm to ease stress."
The National Agricultural Library Website has numerous resources from gardening tips to fact sheets about every vegetable or flower you may be interested in planting. The website highlights that, "A well-kept vegetable garden is a source not only of profit to the gardener but of pleasure to the entire family."

Coffey Dance Center 60th Anniversary
In a heartwarming celebration, the Coffey Dance Center recently marked a remarkable milestone - 60 years of enriching dance education. The air was filled with nostalgia and joy as alumni flocked to the kick-off party, reconnecting with former teachers and friends. Amidst the festivities, a beautiful Alumni book, filled with heartfelt videos and messages, was presented to Paula Coffey, the visionary founder. The weekend soared to new heights with dazzling performances by present and former dancers, leaving audiences awestruck. A citation from Selectman Peter Spagone, Jr. was presented, proclaiming Paula Coffey Day, honoring her incredible legacy. Paula Coffey has entrusted her granddaughter, Kirsten Coffey, with the role of director for the Dance Center. Reflecting on the incredible weekend, Paula exclaimed, "It was a truly wonderful experience reconnecting with the dance family we have built over the past 60 years. I consider myself extremely fortunate. At my studio, we have created a lifetime of beautiful memories for thousands of dancers. Thank you!" This extraordinary weekend resonated with the love and appreciation shared by thousands of dancers whose lives were forever touched by the Coffey Dance Center.

“Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new.” ~ Albert Einstein
“Any book that helps a child to form a habit of reading, to make reading one of his deep and continuing needs, is good for him.”

“The cure for boredom is curiosity. There is no cure for curiosity.” ~ Dorothy Parker
"Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire." ~ William Butler Yeats

I always loved summer school with my boys ... the geography of rocks and biology of trees; glacial formations and mountains; the energy of a warm fire and the transformation of matter when cooked on.
Marine biology and earth sciences in watching the tides and digging sand; the physics of wind in the sails and the pedal turns of our bicycles. Painting & craft projects while sitting in the shade of a tree. Yup, summer is a real STEAM education! Enjoy! ~ Jacquie
