Two Funding Opportunities for Fishermen and Small Businesses

Euphotic is a private foundation designed to support small, independent fishermen in the commercial fishing industry. They have a number of grant opportunities available including Hardship Grants.

The Pine Cone Foundation micro-grant program seeks to support those pursuing long-term careers in agriculture, ranching, fishing, and aquaculture. The PCF micro-grant application is open to established small California-based farms, ranches, fishing, and aquaculture operations that are looking to accomplish a specific project within one year.

This new site will enable you to:

• see an overview of the petition process, petition evaluation framework, and anticipated timeline

• Explore petitions sorted by numerical order, change category, or county, and click the links to learn more about each petition.

Public Comment Period on Proposed Groundfish Amendment re Coral Research Area at Sur Ridge

On October 23, 2024, NOAA Fisheries announced a proposed rule for Amendment 34 to the Groundfish Fishery Management Plan to close the Sur Ridge site within the MBNMS off California to commercial groundfish bottom contact gear in order to protect future deep-sea coral research and restoration projects from the impact of fishing gear. This action stems from the PFMC's June 2024 decision. You may submit a formal comment on this proposed rule through November 22, 2024.
