Office Location and Hours Changes

Hi friends,

I will once again be moving my practice in Feb 2025. I realize this is disruptive for you too, but I am hopeful that this new location will prove to be my stable resting place for years to come. It's a collaborative location called "Tribe" on Belmont just west of Ashland. I tried again to pick a location with your commute in mind and with easy street parking There is a school nearby, but parents picking up and dropping off seems to be a few blocks west of the new office location. I will be there Mondays and Tuesdays.

I will also be adding a second location downtown, but for right now, I am not allowed to see patients there that are not employed in that building. So for private patients, I will add times in my home so that if you would like to or need to come on other days of the week, that is available to you.

To add extra excitement, I have to have a minor surgery on Fri Jan 31st. I will be unable to drive for the week following, so I will only be able to see people in my home Feb 3-7 and then plan to start the new schedule the week of Feb 10th.

My last day at 4250 N Marine Dr will be Thursday Jan 30, 2025.

No Regrets, No Limits Weekend

Offered Jan 30-Feb 1 by LeeAnn Webster

My good friend and colleague is hosting her "No Regrets, No Limits Weekend" next weekend. It’s a virtual 3-day experience for women over 50 who have the sensation that the runway ahead is shorter than the runway behind. Through this event you’ll get clarity and a road map for creating the life you LOVE. The group is small to ensure everyone receives the support needed.

LeeAnn is insightful, inspiring, and pragmatic. An attorney by training, she has pivoted to public speaking, coaching, and workshops that help her clients release regret and self-limitation.

She is a Moth StorySLAM winner, who is sure to keep you entertained and engaged. She is also an IronMan triathelete, has summited Kilimanjaro, is a co-author of "Mid-Life Without the Crisis," and has a one-woman show "Fancy Meeting Me Here."

Don't miss the opportunity to study with her. This weekend will really transform your life!

I'm Currently Reading...

-"Table for Two" by Amor Towles

Lovely collection of short stories, each more charming and interesting than the last. It always amazes me when an author can create vivid characters and narrative styles that are completely different from each other in a short story collection. This is by the author who wrote "The Gentleman in Moscow" and many others that have been circulating around book clubs for years now.

-"Dear Mrs. Bird" by AJ Pierce

Story about a young woman who takes on a ladies advice column. Set during WWII in Britain, it is thoroughly infused with rye British humor.

-"Let Them Theory" by Mel Robbins

Just delivered in the mail today. I bought this because of her interview with James Doughty (whose book "Into the Magic Shop" is phenomenal!) and then her interview on Glennon Doyle's Podcast "We Can Do Hard Things." I love this method of letting go and letting other people be the stars of their own movie while you are the stars of yours. Let Them talks about accepting that other people are going to behave in ways that you cannot control and anguishing about that serves no one. Just let them be themselves.

-"The Pivot Year" by Brianna Wiest with

"The Five Minute Journal" from Intelligent Change

These were Christmas presents from two different friends, and I am using them every day. I read the meditation in the Pivot Year and then the journal to muse about it. If you're looking for a new way to be more mindful this year, consider checking them out.

Tired of explaining to your friends why you get acupuncture and maybe feel a little shy about explaining how it works? I wrote Demystifying Acupuncture: Modern Answers About Ancient Medicine for you!

The book is written in a Q&A format, answering not only the current question, but anticipating the reader's next question and cross-referencing the answers.

Lunar New Year:

Yin Wood Snake

We are getting ready to enter the lunar new year of the Yin Wood Snake this week on Wednesday, January 29, 2025.

Winter is the Five Element Water time. It is time for reflection and turning inwards. It is stillness and introspection of the hibernating animals and seeds, gathering themselves for what is to come. Water supports Wood.

You might remember that Five Element Wood (which peaks in spring) is all about starting from the perspective of the seed and envisioning what you might become. It is seeing yourself as a possibility and beginning to see how you might develop and grow. This is closely related to creating new year's resolutions because you are envisioning changes that you can make for yourself in the coming new year.

We are moving into a Wood year in 2025, so this year will push us to move forward, develop ourselves, and create something new.

While in western culture snakes have many negative connotations, in other belief systems and cultures (Peruvian, American, Asian, Shamanism, and many more), they are animals of healing.

When snakes shed their skin, they regenerate themselves, releasing themselves from their old coverings and creating a new exterior--a new way that they are viewed by the world. This shows us the possibility of rebirth, regeneration, and second chances. Because they are associated with rebirth, they are also associated with dying and the underworld.

Snakes are able to slither into deep spaces and explore the dark underlying parts of our consciousness. In this way, they are often associated with gaining access to hidden knowledge, broadening understanding, and deepening wisdom.

The combination of Wood + Snake may mean a year of profound changes for many of us. But Wood Snake change does not have to be a time of dread.

Change, my friend, comes. It's happening all the time outside of you and inside of you. Your cells are turning over and being replaced by new ones. The air you breathe shifts in and out of you, being replaced by new molecules. The food you consume is transformed into your body, only to be sloughed off and turned into dust or waste.

Change is a natural process. Feel it wash over you and empower you. Feel the amazing ability of your body to convert what it is confronted with into something useful or something to be released. Feel how your mind takes in what is helpful and lets go of all those moments in the day that were part of you for a moment but don't need to be added to your long-term memory. Feel the shift and flow of your breath in and out. Stand tall in this time of change. Feel your strength and ability to love yourself into being with each breath.

There is no need to be afraid. You are here. You are strong. You can do this.

Roasted Vegetables

In the winter I love to have roasted veggies ready for side dishes or as a base to make other meals. I cube them up and roast in the oven or air fryer and then keep them in the fridge for a week or so. This batch I used as a side dish for a pork roast, but they can also be used for breakfast as a base under a fried egg. I keep them minimally seasoned when I roast them the first time and then tweak the seasoning as I use them. Keep the cubes the same size (approximately) so that they all roast in about the same amount of time.

Roast beets whole without peeling individually wrapped with tin foil. Let them cool to room temperature. Use the tin foil to scrape off the peel as you unwrap them, which prevents you from staining your hands with beet juice. Chop or slice after roasting.

Apples can add a nice sweetness, but wait to add this to the last few minutes of roasting time so it doesn't get too mushy. I leave the peel on because it's good for you (full of fiber and nutrients) and helps to maintain the structure of the apple cube.

Veggies to cube and try:

-Turnip

-Sweet potato or yams

-Butternut squash

-White or red potato

-Rutabega

-Parsnips

-Carrots
