We of the Congress Program Committee are grateful for the widespread interest in our 35th Triennial Congress and excited about the response to our theme: Water on the Frontlines for Peace. Our virtual Congress will start on Wednesday evening, May 29, and continue on Thursday and Friday evenings and into the weekend, ending Sunday evening, June 2.
The Congress will highlight the engagement of our issue committees, branches, and members on this theme – now and over the next two years – through education, advocacy, and action. Also, we invite other kinds of proposals from branches, members and Board members – including cultural and creative ones. Co-presented contributions and sessions are welcomed.
For our virtual 2024 Congress, we are inviting your proposals for presentations and workshops on the theme, broadly defined from across the disciplines addressing feminist perspectives, on conflict and militarism; the human right to water; local and regional water issues; organizing by land and water protectors; green sustainable development; and other creative work, activism, and collaboration with other groups and water allies.
We also invite proposals on topics for strengthening WILPF’s peace and freedom work and functioning – such as nonviolent communication, member recruitment, Branch actions, and leadership development.
Cultural and Creative Expressions, Too!
Recognizing that the transformation of our world depends on changing the way we think about and take action for people, peace, water, and the planet, we wish to include creative expressions that are more than just interludes, but a necessary part of our time together – helping us to create a culture of peace and contemplation. Branches and members, we encourage you to offer creative, artistic, and brief presentations. Suggest your original poems, songs, and other creative offerings, to be used for transition times.
We also plan to have a breakout room for talking about books – especially books by WILPF members and books on the Congress theme. Please send title and author information on those you recommend to tinades[at]verizon.net.
Please Submit Your Proposals by Tuesday, March 26
The range of options for proposals may include the following:
- 45-minute workshop sessions
- 30-minute presentations (most likely in breakout rooms)
- a 5-minute oral presentation with your informational poster and materials, for attendees to view in our virtual poster rooms
- Brief cultural and creative transitions: Please be as specific as possible if you would like to sponsor or be a presenter with a friend in one of these creative spots.
Please submit your proposal to Tina Shelton at tinades[at]verizon.net by 11:59 PM EDT, Tuesday, March 26, 2024.
We’ll need more information for our Congress Website and Announcements!
Please provide the following by Tuesday, April 2:
- A carefully proof-read description – 150 words or fewer – of your workshop, presentation, or other offering
- Name(s) of presenter(s) (optionally, with relevant titles and/or branch)
-
Bio and photo – with legal permission to use the photo – of presenter(s) for the website
Our Follow-Up
The Program Committee will review proposals and provide feedback to presenters. Due to the nature of our virtual Congress, late proposals will not be able to be accommodated.
We look forward to your submissions and to an engaging virtual conference!
