Creative Arts Therapy: Clay Workshop

Our Mental Health Program has had a busy and creative July! Monica, the Program Director, hosted a 4-week clay workshop designed to provide women in our community a unique space for connection, reflection, and healing. We explored themes of resilience, growth, and self-discovery. Participants shared that these workshops offered them a calming and safe space, a network of women in the community, and an opportunity to experience a therapeutic art form they likely would not have otherwise explored. We are grateful to continue creating spaces where women can connect with one another, express themselves creatively, and prioritize their mental well-being.

A Trip to Quaker Valley Farm

Thank you to our friends at Quaker Valley Farm for hosting one of our favorite summer trips!

80 children from East Harlem spent a beautiful day at Quaker Valley Farm in Pawling, NY.

The day began with a series of relay races and team challenges before an afternoon of action-filled activities including a petting zoo, a bouncy house, and a scavenger hunt!

Additional treats included intricate face paintings and a surprise ice cream truck!

With a full day of laughter, teamwork, and memorable experiences, it's safe to say that everyone had a blast during our day at Quaker Valley Farm, and we are so grateful to the Jones Family for making this day possible for our students!

Staff Spotlight: Meet Lucia Aguilar!

Lucia's connection to LSA Family Health Service began long before her career here. As a teenager, she volunteered at LSA as she accompanied her mother, who received services. Today, after more than 22 years of dedicated service to the East Harlem community, Lucia continues to play a vital role.

She started her career in data entry, moved into advocacy, and then became the Director of Family Support Services. Throughout her journey, she never lost her passion for helping others. Drawing from her own experiences, Lucia understands many of the challenges community members face and is committed to providing support and compassion to those who walk through our doors.

Among her proudest moments are watching children and families thrive over the years. She fondly remembers seeing one child grow from a two-year-old participant into a college student attending school on a full scholarship!

One of the things she is most excited about is LSA's new Wellness Center, which improves services through streamlined operations, reduced wait times, and a greater emphasis on dignity for clients.

Lucia remains proud to be part of LSA's mission and looks forward to continuing to support, advocate for, and uplift those who rely on the organization's services. Thank you, Lucia, for continuing to be a smiling face and a trusted champion for the families we serve.
