Hey friend,
Around this time of year there's a plethora of 'nostalgia' content around Covid-19 and lockdown. I don't know about you but I'd prefer not to be reminded.
The only reason I bring it up is that we're seeing echoes of public reaction to the most recent crisis of the 2020s (what a decade), the war in Iran and, specifically, its potential consequences.
And the only reason I bring that up is to say that we've been here before. Not exactly the same of course, but the concern, the news stories, the potential consequences.
By the time you receive this email, the situation could be all over. Or it could be worse - it's fluid. Whatever happens, as businesses, we can be prepared for the impact it has on our customers' willingness to buy.
Let's be real for a second: when people get nervous, they take their foot of the gas (maybe this is a bad analogy in the circumstances). Uncertainty can cause decision delay for a variety of reasons. Naturally, we don't want any delay.
So what can we do about it?
In any sales and marketing, your priority is to reassure; to make working with you, buying your products/services a safe choice. A choice that will improve their business or life by making that decision. You may need to acknowledge the current situation and layout ways in which you support them at this time.
You can also use offers and deadlines to encourage a customer to act sooner. Or scarcity if there is a limit on what you can provide. None of this is unethical, it is addressing a current challenge and inviting a customer to respond.
We know from the pandemic that we got through it, and we'll get through any current issues too. The biggest lesson we learned at LikeMind was to actively engage with customers and show support for their business. That's what we'll do now, and I recommend doing the same in your business.
We're here to support you now and always - if you need anything, or want to discuss anything you read here, reply to me directly.
Good health and best wishes,
Paul
