THE INTEGRITY PATH

Medal of Honor Recipient

Gary Lee Littrell Ret. CSM

Founder of The Integrity Path

Army Command Sgt. Maj. Gary Littrell’s career is defined by courage and leadership under fire. In April 1970, while advising the 23rd Vietnamese Ranger Battalion, he was the lone uninjured American left to lead hundreds of South Vietnamese soldiers surrounded by 5,000 enemy troops. For four days, he directed airstrikes, cared for the wounded, and inspired the men to keep fighting. His valor earned him the Medal of Honor in 1973.

After retiring from the Army, Littrell dedicated himself to veterans and youth. He founded Tribute to Valor, a foundation that reached thousands of students nationwide with Medal of Honor values. In time, however, he felt called back to the grassroots level, the classrooms, where the message of integrity and service could take root more personally. That decision inspired him to streamline his efforts and form a new nonprofit, The Integrity Path (TIP), carrying forward his mission in a focused, hands-on way.

Today, Littrell continues to share his story not as his own, but on behalf of the men who never came home and to guide young people to live with courage, sacrifice, and integrity.

The Integrity Path Joins STARBASE in Shaping Futures

The Integrity Path was honored to join DOD STARBASE, a program dedicated to inspiring students through hands-on STEM education. While STARBASE leads the way in science, technology, engineering, and math, our role was to support their mission by sharing the Six Core Values of the Medal of Honor—courage, commitment, sacrifice, integrity, citizenship, and patriotism. Medal of Honor recipient Gary Littrell and Suzanne Littrell spoke with students, encouraging them to see how these timeless values can guide their choices both inside and outside the classroom.

Together, The Integrity Path and STARBASE are building a collaborative relationship to give students both the technical tools and the character foundation they need for their future. For many, this is a true tipping point—a moment where they decide which direction their life will take. By combining STEM education with values that shape citizenship and leadership, we aim to inspire students to take the right path forward.

Youth Challenge Academy

TIP met with the high school students of the Sunburst Youth Challenge Academy—a residential, voluntary program designed for teens who have struggled in school or faced challenges with the law but have chosen to redirect their lives. Medal of Honor recipient Gary Littrell spoke candidly about his own troubled path, and the response from the cadets was powerful. Many reached out with heartfelt questions, eager to learn how he navigated hardship and found strength to keep moving forward. For these students, the conversation was more than just a talk—it was a pivotal moment, a chance to see a path through adversity and toward a future built on courage, resilience, and character.

We invite educators across the U.S. to connect with The Integrity Path and bring our program to their students. Led by Medal of Honor recipient Hall of Fame ARMY Ranger Gary Littrell and USC Volleyball Athlete, All-American-National Amature Surfing Champion, and former Hollywood stuntwoman Suzanne Littrell, we share the Six Core Values of the Medal of Honor—courage, commitment, sacrifice, integrity, citizenship, and patriotism—through real-life stories and interactive sessions, with no politics or glorification of war.

We’ve partnered with DOD STARBASE, LAUSD JROTC units, The Battleship Iowa, Post 283 and AUSA by combining STEM learning with character education. Students consistently tell us our visits help them rethink choices, build resilience, and discover their potential. See above video for one of many students thanking Gary Littrell for all he does.
