Dear Southern Door Community,
Children love the gifts at the holidays! At school we hear all sorts of wishes for the gifts children would love to receive but we also hear about the every day important "gifts" in their lives. While material gifts are fun, they break down over time. Children lose interest in them and move on to another toy they "have" to have.
One gift that your child or grandchild will never tire of is your undivided attention. Take time over the next few weeks to spend some quality time with your child or grandchild. Invest in them and watch the payback and return for years to come. The image on the right is a great reminder of what we see and hear at school about how important those personal "gifts of your time" are to our children to help them feel important in your lives and Eagle Strong!

T
hank You to Our Volunteers
We thank all those who donated items, or are volunteering under the direction of Carrol and Mike Toneys, to make the Winter Eagle’s Nest Store possible. Students visit the store and use BEAK tickets that they have earned for following the "Eagle Proud, Eagle Strong" behavior expectations at school to “purchase” up to two gifts for caring adults in their lives. On December 17 and 18, students will shop for gifts, and volunteers are needed on both of those days to help students wrap the gifts they “purchase. If interested in helping, please contact the elementary school office at (920) 825-7321.

UPDATE FROM ACTIVITIES' DIRECTOR, KOREY MALLIEN
As our winter sports teams get deeper into the season, now is a good time to reinforce good sportsmanship by our coaches, players and fans at home and away events.
While it's easy to get caught up in an intense basketball game or wrestling match, our school district is often viewed either positively or negatively by the way we behave at extra-curricular events.
We strongly encourage our athletes and coaches to play by the rules, respect officials and opponents, support their teammates, remain positive at all times, win with "class", and accept defeat gracefully.
Those are also the same high standards we expect of our adult fans and student body.
It is my hope as a proud Southern Door alum and as the district's first-year Activities Director, that we hold ourselves to the highest of sportsmanship standards and always strive to be recognized as class acts.
As the legendary sportswriter Grantland Rice once eloquently wrote:
"When the One Great Scorer comes to write against your name,
He marks -- not that you won or lost -- but how you played the game."
Go Eagles!

Honoring Basketball Records - 1980's Alumni Invited to Dec. 14th Game
The Boys' Basketball team tied the Packerland Conference record of 28 consecutive conference wins when they beat Oconto 68-53 this week.
In honor of this, the district will be recognizing the Southern Door 1983-84 and 1984-85 varsity boys basketball teams who also holds that record. All players, coaches, managers, and cheerleaders from those 1980’s teams are invited to Southern Door’s game Friday night against Peshtigo, to be honored alongside our current team and see whether the record will be broken. Go Eagles!

CALLING ALL SDHS ALUMNI BAND MEMBERS – MONDAY, JANUARY 7
Come join us for the 2019 Southern Door HS Alumni Pep Band Night at the Boys Basketball game against Sturgeon Bay! If you are interested in playing, and would like the music ahead of time, please contact Ms. Naomi Files at nfiles@southerndoor.k12.wi.us. If you need an instrument, we can probably help you out! If you are interested in playing, have your own instrument, and are fine with sight reading that night, just let Ms. Files know you'll be there so she can have some music printed out for you. The group will meet in the high school band room at 6:30 that evening to play through a couple of tunes before heading out onto the basketball court to play for both the pregame and half-time shows. Feel free to share this information with anyone you think might be interested!

FIFTH GRADE MUSICAL IN FULL SWING
This year marks the 44th annual Southern Door 5th Grade musical. Under the direction of Barb Mueller and Sara Mueller, 'ROCK! Celebrate the History of Rock and Roll,' will take you on a journey from classic rock's early beginnings to today's sound we all know and love. Plan on hearing works from some of the greats as well as familiar favorites. From Elvis to the Beatles, there's no doubt that you'll be tapping along to the beat! This production allows students to grow in their public speaking and self confidence, improve their teamwork skills, and enhance their musicality. In addition to bringing our production to life, the 5th graders of Southern Door will work together to raise money for the Cerebral Palsy Center in Green Bay, which they'll present to the center during their telethon in March. We hope to see you at our show on Thursday January 24th or Friday 25th at 7:00 pm at the Southern Door Community Auditorium. If you are interested in contributing to the CP Center, please contact Bridget Spude at
bspude@southerndoor.k12.wi.us
