Greetings!

Celebrate Youth Art Month (YAM) this March!

2026 YAM Theme: The World Needs Art

What is Youth Art Month?

Youth Art Month (YAM) is a national arts advocacy program that is celebrated during the month of March. This program strives to recognize, encourage, and celebrate art education in the classroom. FAEA celebrates by highlighting classroom success stories, recognizing outstanding art teachers, and encouraging teachers to promote their art programs in their communities.

How can I get involved with YAM?

FAEA invites all art educators to participate in YAM activities this year. YAM celebrations can be as simple as a single-class learning activity that focuses on the value of the arts. Celebrations can also involve school-wide or community art exhibitions, fundraisers for school art programs, or other community art outreach programs. Visit the FAEA website to find ideas to incorporate YAM into the classroom.

Share your art program success stories on social media and tag @FloridaArtEd in your post and include the following hashtags: #YouthArtMonth #YAM

Together, we can raise awareness of the value of visual arts education in our schools and of the positive impact that art educators have on their students and communities.

Youth Art Month Ignites March Momentum

Dear FAEA Family,

If February was about laying the groundwork and finding our rhythm, then March is where the masterpiece truly comes to life. As we transition from all the winter planning into the sunshine of spring, I continue to be in awe of the incredible work happening in your classrooms, studios, and communities.

Our Work Begins:

I am still feeling inspired by our Board of Directors weekend in St. Petersburg. This group is listening and ready to work for you. Keep an eye on your inbox, as your Division Directors will be reaching out soon with exciting updates and new opportunities for you.

FAEA Takes on Chicago: NAEA 2026

The first week of March brings one of the most exciting professional art education highlights of the year: the National Art Education Association Conference (March 5–7, 2026). I am so proud to see such a strong and dedicated group of FAEA members heading to the "Windy City" to represent Florida on the national stage.

Beyond the workshops and networking, this is a time of celebration for our state. We look forward to cheering loudly for our FAEA members who will be taking the stage to receive NAEA awards, including Marilyn Proctor-Givens (Florida Art Educator of the Year) and Gabrielle Roland (National New Professional Art Educator). Their success is a testament to the excellence of our association, and I can't wait to see Florida shine in the national spotlight.

It is no surprise that the FAEA website was the winner of the NAEA Website Award Category III Award. Our website is stunning and a true testament to the talent within our association.

Youth Art Month & Spring Events:

March is officially Youth Art Month (YAM)! This is the time to shout from the rooftops about the power of art education. Whether you are engaging with your local school board, hosting a school fine arts night, or sharing student success online, this is the time to lead the conversation on why the arts are essential to all. Our theme, “The World Needs Art,” reminds us that our advocacy ensures the next generation of creatives is seen, heard, and valued.

Spring Opportunities:

  • Member Spotlight: If you know a colleague doing transformative work, nominate them (or yourself!) so we can celebrate their impact.
  • Conference Proposals: Start thinking about the fall! Submit your session proposal for our 2026 Conference in St. Petersburg. Invite a friend to submit a proposal as well. The deadline for proposal submissions is May 1, 2026.

Final Thoughts:

March is a marathon, but don't forget to find time for your own creative practice. Whether it’s a quick sketch or a turn on that karaoke mic, keep that spark alive.

We are always in your corner, cheering you on. Happy Spring!

Warmly,

Christy Garton

President, Florida Art Education Association

P.S. Together we are STRONGER!
