Visitor data from January 1 through July 31 shows encouraging growth for Yates County tourism. Fifty-five percent of visitors traveled from out of state, an increase of 4% compared to the same period last year. The top visitor markets were the New York City Metro Area, Buffalo, and Wilkes Barre-Scranton, with the Food and Beverage sector continuing to generate the highest visitor spending.

Among overnight guests staying at local accommodations, New York City remained the leading feeder market, accounting for 38% of visitors, up significantly from 22% during the same period last year.

Visitor spending also increased, with average daily spending rising to $69 per visitor, compared to $63 last year. This represents a 10% increase and reflects the continued strength of Yates County's tourism economy.

In Spring, we introduced the Marketing before Memorial Day Checklist in preparation for the summer and sent a series of emails to assist in executing the checklist. Hopefully, these suggestions helped shape a successful beginning to the peak season.

Now, in the heart of the hustle and summer heat, we wanted to check in and help everyone complete a seasonal marketing checkup. The Summer Marketing Check-In (link below) will guide you through the remainder of the summer and fall season, with quick updates to websites and social media, while also considering the promotions and offerings you are currently running.

Check Your Site's Mobile Version

Take a few minutes to check your website on a mobile device. Most visitors search for businesses on their phones, so ensuring your website loads quickly and is easy to navigate can make a significant difference.

Facebook Unique URL

If you haven't already, claim your business's unique Facebook URL. A custom web address makes your page easier to find, easier to share, and presents a more professional online presence.

When you generate the URL your Facebook address will include your business name www.facebook.com/YatesCountyChamber, instead of being a generic page profile with numbers such as this www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=10007630836835.

The link below provides step-by-step instructions to claim your Facebook URL

Promotions and Offerings

Create Seasonal Offerings or Experiences

Consider creating a limited-time seasonal offer or experience. Whether it's a special menu item, retail promotion, package, or event, seasonal offerings create excitement and encourage customers to visit.

Business Collaborations

Think about partnering with neighboring businesses on a promotion or package. Whether it's a shopping special, dining partnership, or shared experience, collaborating with other local businesses can introduce you to new customers and create a stronger community experience.

Community Gift Card Program Spotlight

One of the easiest ways to attract new customers while encouraging people to shop local is by joining the Yates County Community Gift Card Program. This summer and fall, we are focused on building enrollment in the Community Gift Card Program exclusive to Yates County Chamber of Commerce Members.

Community Gift Cards can be redeemed at participating Chamber Member Businesses throughout Yates County, introducing your business to new customers while keeping local dollars circulating in our community. The program is easy to implement and works with your point-of-sale systems, including tap-to-pay.

Interested in participating? Chrissy Kramer, Information Specialist, is available to visit your business, answer your questions, and help activate the program on your POS system.

To schedule a visit, call the Chamber office at 315-536-3111 or email Chrissy directly at christine@yatesny.com.

Interested but not a Chamber of Commerce Member? Contact Jody Tyler, Director of Membership Services, at 315-536-3111 or by email at Jody@yatesny.com.
