An urgent alert from the US Section of the
Women's International League for Peace and Freedom
WILPF US calls on members to TAKE ACTION.
We deplore the violence and apartheid of Israel against the Palestinian people.
 – News Update –
As of 7 pm EDT, 5/20, a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel, mediated by Egypt, went into effect. So we welcome the immediate call for a ceasefire. The NYTimes, The Times Of Israel and The Palestine Chronicle reported the breaking news re: the ceasefire.

We can call on Biden to make sure the ceasefire holds and that agreements of terms are followed through. Although we hope, Biden must act to move beyond the past, when ceasefires had not lasted.
Freeze arms in this global hot spot!
Please contact your Senators, your member in the House of Representatives, and President Biden!

WILPF US issues this statement, written by the WILPF US Middle East Peace and Justice Action Committee (MEPJAC) member, Genie Silver, with input from the other MEPJAC members.

We call on the US government to immediately and publicly exert strong diplomatic and economic pressure on Israel:

  1. To make sure the ceasefire holds and that agreements of terms are followed through
  2. To ensure Israel ends its siege of Gaza and its occupation of the West Bank, including in East Jerusalem
  3. To allow all Palestinian refugees the right of return to their lands and homes stolen by Israel since 1948

This new WILPF US statement builds on the WILPF International 2011 Resolution on the Middle East, which affirms "the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people including the right to self‐ determination, the right of return, and the right to establish an independent state of Palestine at the pre‐1967 border… ." Our new statement is posted on the WILPF US homepage in the Statements and Resolutions section.

WILPF supports working for a world in which Israel allows all Palestinian refugees to return to their homes and land in Israel and to have access to the natural resources Israel has claimed: springs, farmland, fishing rights, etc.
