THE CALL OF ISAIAH
If you study the bible, you learn about the various ones that God called to be a prophet. One of them is Isaiah. His ministry as a prophet spanned the reigns of four kings. His wife was also a prophet. Some call the prophet Isaiah the “Paul” of the Old Testament.
In Chapter 6 of Isaiah we see that King Uzziah had died and Isaiah saw the Lord high and lifted up, with his train [skirts] filling the temple of God in heaven. He saw the seraphims worshipping the Lord, and it caused him to see himself as a sinner.
Then in Isaiah 6:8, he heard God speak, saying, “Also I heard the voice of the LORD saying, ‘Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?’ Then said I, ‘Here am I; send me.’”
Isaiah recognized the voice of God, and surrendered to the call. Then in verse 9 the LORD told him what his ministry would be like. It said, “And he [God] said, ‘Go, and tell this people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive not.’”
Isaiah had a very hard call. He would speak God’s word, but the people would not understand. The people would see what was happening but would not perceive, or understand what was happening.
Are you called to be an Isaiah? If so, like Isaiah, you will say, “Here am I; send me.” But along with that, do not expect a great following, because as Isaiah’s call, people will not understand when you share the truth, even seeing what is happening. They will ignore your words, and ultimately will turn their backs to truth.
An Isaiah call is an extremely hard call, but God knows who will heed the call, and if that person is you, then be prepared to be isolated, mocked, scorned, lied about, and criticized for being negative instead of being a prophet that warns. Do not look at their faces, listen to the words. Be obedient to share what God says, and be faithful to the call. God will be pleased, even when those that hear will reject what God has given you.
It is a high but lonely call. Do not take the call lightly. God will be with you and will reward your faithfulness to the call.
