September Club Highlights

Check out this past month's happenings:

Little Sparklers with Coach Kenia

Reseda Elementary

Little Sparklers is a program meant to foster leadership skills to create young leaders. The program focuses on all elementary grades, but, this month, our fifth grade pod really thrived. They focused on developing themselves this month. As a final project, they created vision boards for their future. This gave them an opportunity to choose images from media that they feel represents who they want to become.

Baseball League

Blythe Elementary

This program is to teach members grades 1st-5th how to play Baseball. The goal is to teach the rules of the game while placing an emphasis on good sportsmanship, teamwork, and character. This program comes to an end in October, with the final game played on October 26th for our 'Lights On After School' event! Parents and families were invited to see the big game and cheer on our members!

Arts n’ Crafts

Calabash Elementary

Calabash Charter Academy aims to incorporate arts and crafts in order to provide students with a valuable avenue for personal and social development. We have created an environment that targets our 20 members where they can express themselves freely. Through creative projects, members can navigate their feelings in a safe and expressive manner, which will ultimately help them establish relationships and improve their communication skills. This arts n’ crafts activity serves as a platform for members to build emotional awareness, form connections, and build trust.

Wellness Wednesday

Woodland Hills Elementary

Members at Woodland Hills Elementary School made a Friendship Tree for Wellness Wednesday. Members found a partner to learn about and wrote three things they learned on a hand cut out and placed it on the Friendship Tree. Wellness Wednesday programs help show members healthy ways to express their emotions and also teaches them how to treat others. The goal of this program is to help promote healthy lifestyles, teach them how to regulate their emotions, and learn how to treat others. This program runs every Wednesday in a group of around 20-25 members.

Halloween Crafts

Gary M. Thomas Clubhouse

Members had a day of spooky sweetness! This single-day activity offered elementary youth aged 6 to 11 an exciting platform to unleash their creativity and embrace the Halloween spirit. 15 young members of the Club participated in this thrilling contest, transforming ordinary cookies into extraordinary, eerie, and imaginative Halloween treats. This activity encourages artistic expression and promotes teamwork and camaraderie among the members.

Music Program

Teen Center

These are Members from our teen center participating in the music program run by Henry, a drumming instructor of 50 years experience. In the photo you can see them warming up on drum pads. The purpose for this music program is to improve creativity and confidence.

The music program runs every Thursday and members are sent home with personal drumsticks to practice throughout the week. A highlight of the program so far is seeing the progress of the members in just a few sessions. Day 1 there was not a single member who was able to hold a drumstick properly, and now just a few weeks later they are able to do basic rhythmic patterns and read these patterns, significantly improving their dexterity and hand-eye coordination.

Language Immersion

Canoga Park High School

Our language immersion program is an educational program that helps our emerging English students become fluent in English. To achieve this goal we must strive in giving the members continuous opportunities to practice and learn. This program occurs throughout the entire academic school year.

College Bound Application Series

Chatsworth High School

Future Ready’s College Bound Application Series is a fundamental program that supports our members throughout their college application journey. Chatsworth’s seniors have been working closely with our Future Ready Advisor to support them with their UC and CSU applications. The seniors have been working hard to finish their applications with the support of the College Bound Series which runs every Tuesday and Thursday.

Aviation

Cleveland High School

Owen Brown, a volunteer, teaches members about one of his passions, aviation. He shares his experiences flying, educates them on how flying works, and guides them through flight simulators. He also goes over aviation careers they can look into. There are about 10 members in his program, and they will be treated to a field trip to Van Nuys airport to get a tour of how the airport works. The program ran every Thursday of October and the Field Trip is November 2nd.
