This Month's Energy:
Where the Mountain Meets the Fire
Picture a tall mountain with sharp edges piercing the skyline, unyielding and unconcerned with your comfort. That is the image of the Yang Earth Dog, the final month of Autumn and a true power month. Its intensity is extraordinary, and it asks for a deep process of change and release that may feel uncomfortable, even raw, before it feels like relief.
The Larger Fire Behind This Month
In 2024 we entered Period 9, a 20 year cycle governed by the Fire element and often called the age of Inspiration and Transformation. It is destined to be one of the most powerful periods in time, and 2026, a powerful Fire year, has been pressing us forward ever since the year began. Fire illuminates, and this year it has been pulling our shadow work up from the deep well within, urging us to awaken to our truth and to the extraordinary creators we are.
Not everyone feels ready for that. Some of us feel torn apart from the inside, with old fears surfacing and a strong pull to hold on to the past. If that is you, nothing is wrong with you. You are standing in the heat of a very large transition.
The Dog and Horse Alliance: Fire Finds Its Fuel
The Fire this year has been relentless, building steadily month after month. Now the Dog arrives and combines forces with the Horse, bringing the combustion needed to burn through what has outlived its purpose. This pairing demands real release, and it also carries the potential to make the impossible possible, to bring change into the world and into people's lives.
The Dog month also brings considerably stronger Earth qualities. After the disruption of the previous Fire months, Earth supports consolidation, restructuring, and putting things back in order. It is a deliberate clearing phase that carries a stabilizing feel.
Rebuilding, however, does not mean recreating what existed before. The Fire swell adds pressure, and that pressure often sharpens determination, which may leave you more committed to your goals than you were a month ago.
Questions to Explore This Month
- Which patterns, commitments, relationships, or structures have become liabilities rather than foundations?
- What has worked and produced results, and how could you refine and strengthen it?
- What has this last stretch taught you that could now become part of the new structure?
- Which system, behavior, or safeguard allowed the old problem in, and what could you change about it?
What Remains After the Burn
October is a deliberate act of making space, and what remains after this incineration may determine the quality of the clean slate you carry into 2027's Fire Goat.
Consider letting yourself see what no longer serves you. Consider releasing what you have outgrown, even when it is familiar and even when it hurts. Structures do not earn a place in your life simply because you have invested time, energy, or identity in them. Let the discomfort do its work, because the more honestly we face what needs to end, the more room we create for what is ready to begin.
October is not asking us to preserve everything we have built. It is asking for the courage to burn away what no longer belongs and to consciously direct where we go next.

Humility is the virtue of modesty, balance, and self-restraint. The image is a mountain tucked beneath the earth, tall and powerful yet content to stay low. It carries the principle that true strength lies in not exalting yourself, and that doing so often invites harmony, grace, and lasting success. That image echoes the mountain of this Earth Dog month, with its power held in reserve rather than put on display.
This is power tempered by wisdom. It asks you to know when to yield and how to act for the greater good, balancing the extremes by neither inflating the ego nor shrinking your worth.
