June 19th, 2026

Hello Friends & Neighbors,

I am grateful to be able to reach you through this medium.

Community engagement is at the forefront of my mission to provide resources, events, and support for our residents and businesses. My motto of "Putting You First...Keeps Us First" will continue to be my guide. I look forward to engaging with you more in the future!  Please take a look at the various events, projects, programs and share with your contacts.

This June, I join communities across Broward County and across the nation in recognizing Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month. This observance is an important reminder to raise awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia, while also supporting the families, caregivers, and loved ones who are impacted every day. Brain health matters at every stage of life. By encouraging education, early detection, healthy habits, and compassionate support, we can help create a more informed and caring community for those living with Alzheimer’s and related conditions.

Broward County

Division Spotlight: Parks and Recreation

As summer gets underway, I am pleased to highlight Broward County Parks and Recreation and the opening of our water parks for the season. Residents and visitors can cool off, stay active, and enjoy family-friendly fun every day this summer through August 9, 2026, at C.B. Smith Park’s Paradise Cove, T.Y. Park, and Quiet Waters Park.

I am especially proud to share that, through the support of The Parks Foundation of Broward County, each water park now features two Communications Boards designed to help individuals who are non-verbal or have limited speech express their needs, choices, and emotions. This important addition helps foster more inclusive and welcoming spaces for all members of our community.

Guests can also reserve Funbrellas and other park amenities through WebTrac to make the most of their visit. I encourage District 7 residents and families to spend time outdoors this summer, enjoy our beautiful water parks, and contact the parks directly for additional information.

Broward County World Cup Watch Party Celebrations

In partnership with the Florida Panthers Association, Broward County will host four public World Cup watch parties at the Amerant Bank Arena (Arena) in Sunrise. Fans will have the opportunity to experience the energy and excitement of international soccer in a family-friendly environment. Attendance and parking are free. Reserve up to six tickets through SeatGeek.com or AmerantBankArena.com. The scheduled watch parties are on:

  • Saturday, June 27 @ 7:30 PM (Colombia vs. Portugal)
  • Saturday, July 11 @ 5 PM (TBD) - Quarterfinals
  • Sunday, July 19 @ 3 PM (TBD) – The Final

Broward County Transit will provide special Park & Ride transportation service to the Arena watch parties and designated match transportation hubs.

Swim Lessons at a Reduced Cost

Drowning is the leading cause of death for children up to four years old in Florida. Broward County Parks is working to combat this statistic through its SWIM Central Program, which offers discount coupons for Learn to Swim programs for County residents. Sign up for water safety lessons and help spread the word. Coupons for low-cost swimming lessons are for both children and adults.

As global temperatures rise, many regions across the world are now facing hotter days and more frequent, more dangerous heat waves. Find local data, temperature forecasts and tips to Beat the Heat this summer.

Additionally, the County's partnership to activate Cooling Centers whenever the heat index exceeds 110°F will offer a critical layer of protection for vulnerable residents and are equipped with air conditioning, restrooms, and drinking water.

Make This a Summer to Remember

Looking for fun and engaging activities for your child this summer? The Broward County Parks and Recreation Division Summer Recreation program runs June 8 through July 31 and offers a free variety of activities designed to keep youth active, learning, and having fun. Space is limited, and registration is required. For participating locations and program details, visit Broward.org/Parks.

Support Children in Need Through Christmas in July

Homelessness can affect anyone, including children attending school right here in Broward County. Many students facing housing insecurity may also lack access to necessities such as school supplies, hygiene products, and clothing. That's where Christmas in July comes in. County employees and residents are encouraged to donate essential items such as school supplies and toiletries to help support children and families experiencing homelessness throughout Broward County. Donation boxes are placed throughout County facilities. See Donation Drop-Off Locations
