Last week, NACD staff gathered at the Pearlstone Center in Reisterstown, Md., for the association's annual staff retreat. Staff members had an opportunity to brainstorm new ideas, collaborate on upcoming projects and programs, and foster and strengthen relationships with each other.
Over the three-day retreat, NACD staff members met to review and discuss several of the organization's existing programs and upcoming events, as well as important team updates from each of the organization's department directors.
On Thursday, Oct. 10, staff reviewed grant deliverables for Fiscal Year 2020 and were joined by
Michael Brunner with Brunner & Associates, who helped facilitate a comprehensive review and discussion of NACD's draft 2020-22 Strategic Plan.
On the final day, department directors invited staff to reflect and brainstorm on the organization's upcoming campaigns and programming, including NACD's 75th Anniversary, the National Conservation Foundation's (NCF)
Next Generation Leadership Institute program, membership trends and more.
From discussing the organization's mission statement and culture to reflecting on personal successes and goals, staff members left the retreat with a better understanding and outlook for how NACD can continue to advocate for locally-led conservation districts and their associations moving forward.
"This year's staff retreat led to many engaging and fruitful conversations,"
said NACD CEO Jeremy Peters. "It was extremely beneficial for us to be together in the same space. We look forward to implementing our ideas in the coming year, so that we can continue to support our members and conservation districts nationwide."

WORKSHOP PARTICIPANT CREATES CONSERVATION CAREERS WEBSITE
|
As a part of the
2019 Conservation Careers Workshop
, the participants, current college students, were asked to complete personal outreach efforts to expand engagement to other students at each participant’s campus and community.
Many undergraduates are unaware of the various career opportunities related to conservation. With this resource, students approaching graduation can find future employment and career path options. The site provides an overview of the importance of conservation, as well as resources to further involvement in related fields.
The Conservation Careers workshop, traditionally held at NACD's annual meeting, is an opportunity to introduce current college students to the history, trends and current careers in the field of conservation.

NCF INVITES STATES TO SUBMIT BID TO HOST NCF-ENVIROTHON
|
The National Conservation Foundation (NCF) is now inviting interested states to submit a preliminary proposal bid to host a future
NCF-Envirothon international event in 2023 or beyond.
Hosting the NCF-Envirothon provides an opportunity to grow your local program, raise awareness of local natural resource issues facing your state or province, and showcase your state or province to the world.
To expose students to a variety of regions and conservation issues found across North America, the NCF-Envirothon has set a proposed competition region schedule to help maintain a constant rotation of the host locations. However, if you are interested in hosting in a year outside of your state- or province-designated region rotation, you are still encouraged to submit a bid for that year using the due dates
outlined in the bid document. If a state or province from the year’s designated proposed competition region does not submit a preliminary proposal by the set deadline, the NCF-Envirothon may accept bids from states or provinces outside of that region for consideration.
If a state Envirothon program is interested in hosting, the state Envirothon coordinator is invited to submit a preliminary host proposal bid on or before
Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2020. Your preliminary proposal bid will be reviewed by the NCF-Envirothon Operating Committee and the NCF Board of Trustees at the NACD Annual Meeting in February 2020.
