Public invited to Improve I-70: Truck Parking meetings

Learn about the need for improved truck parking along I-70

During peak hours, every public truck parking area along Interstate 70 is over capacity and 75% of truck stops are full.

To address this issue, MoDOT invites travelers and the trucking community to attend informational meetings about the upcoming Improve I-70: Truck Parking project which aims to expand safe, off-highway truck parking along the corridor. The project may include improvements to existing truck parking and rest areas in Odessa, Concordia, Boonville, Mineola and Wright City.

Meeting Details:

  • Tuesday, Jan. 27 from 4-6 p.m.
    Concordia Community Center Gymnasium
    802 S. Gordon St. Concordia, MO 64020

  • Wednesday, Jan. 28 from 4-6 p.m.

    Wright City Middle School Cafeteria
100 Bell Rd. Wright City, MO 63390

Stop by any time between 4 and 6 p.m. The same information will be shared at both locations. There will be no formal presentation, but MoDOT engineers will be available to answer questions.

MoDOT's Improve I-70 Program includes approximately $29 million in infrastructure grant funding to expand the availability of truck parking along I-70. These informational meetings will cover potential sites, the procurement schedule and next steps.

The information presented at the meetings will also be available on the project webpage soon. Starting Monday, Jan. 26, an online comment form will be available on the project page.

MoDOT celebrates completion of first Forward 44 project

The opening of the Melville Road (Farm Road 127) Bridge over Interstate 44 in Springfield marks the first completed project in MoDOT's Forward 44 effort. Forward 44 is designed to improve safety, mobility and connectivity along the I-44 corridor in southwest Missouri. The new bridge helps ease congestion at nearby interchanges and provides drivers with an alternative route. Stay up to date on current and upcoming projects by visiting the Forward 44 website.

Highway Safety Project Spotlight: Saved by the Belt/Helmet

Properly using a seat belt in a car and wearing a DOT-compliant helmet on a motorcycle are the most effective ways to prevent injury and death in a crash. To raise awareness, MoDOT established the “Saved by the Belt” and "Saved by the Helmet" programs, which honor individuals whose lives were saved because they used the proper protective gear. Visit SaveMOLives for qualification guidelines and nomination details.

Transportation History: Arizona DOT tests travel times on signs

On Jan. 22, 2008, the Arizona Department of Transportation launched a pilot program using select dynamic message signs (DMS) to display estimated travel times to popular destinations around the Phoenix metro area during peak travel times. The program was well-received and quickly expanded. Drivers appreciated real-time estimates based on road construction, traffic conditions and other factors that might affect their commutes.
