Cathy Reed Celebrates One Year
It's not just anyone who can claim the title of Legendary Ledger, able to add and subtract numbers like a human computer and who excels at Excel, hiding true power from her arch nemesis Miss Placed Decimals. That is Cathy Reed's superpower.
Cathy shares, "I love my job and don’t really have a favorite part. I did, however, have the best “feel good” moment when I felt that my job had value to the team in our efforts to increase growth.
When asked what her biggest surprise was since starting the job, she revealed, "It is the nature of this business. I had no idea it even existed! The song “Load Out” by Jackson Brown has new meaning to me now that I am more aware of the hard work it takes to set up and dismantle a show, transport gear and ensure that the best talent for the show is provided."
She goes on to say, "I am a positive person by nature but through the years I have had challenges that made it hard to keep that positivity at times. I discovered that I am the one in control of determining if my day is going to be good or bad the minute it starts. I choose a “good” day every day."
We're delighted to have Cathy as part of our team, and we can honestly say that she contributes her sense of humor, positive attitude, and taste for pranks to our office, helping to make every day a great day for everyone at Cheshire.

Tim Lockhart Celebrates Two Years
Tim may not lead the talk show lifestyle of Space Ghost, the Superhero with which he most closely identifies, but he is definitely one-of-a-kind as he works to fight mayhem that may pop up on shows.
Talking about his career with Cheshire, he reveals, "Over the past 2 years, the most rewarding part of my job would be the connections I’ve made along the way. My job requires me to travel out of state frequently, which has exposed me to a lot of unique people in our industry. Between the major clientele we directly work with, our affiliated professional tradeshow vendors, and the sub-contracted freelancers, it is truly rewarding to work with such incredible individuals. Though each show we do has its own set of challenges, working alongside these teams to together build a memorable experience is a feat that bears exceptional value.
"Before starting at Cheshire, I worked primarily for a different niche in the AV industry. Now, through working at Cheshire, I’ve been exposed to a fresh side to which I’ve committed a long career. Event Technology is such a behemoth of an industry with many different subgenres within it. Exploring each part is the key to this flourishing career."
When asked what surprises him about the job, he says, "Being a part of this constantly-evolving industry, very little surprises me anymore. Each day will be different from the last, and you’ll always see a curveball thrown your way. My advice, remain on your feet and watch your 6 (a term for watch your back). Expect the best but prepare for the worst. If you always remain alert, very little will surprise you."
Tim's code to live by is: "Learn from your mistakes and celebrate your achievements. Fear nothing and grow through what you go through. Adversity builds character, and suffering is the cornerstone to greatness."
We congratulate Tim on his many achievements while at Cheshire, and we look forward to giving him many more opportunities to grow in further greatness as a team member!

Managing Event Budgets through Wiser AV Use | |
|
Your company is on a tight budget for your upcoming event, and you know that, as important as AV is to the success of your event, it will take a bite out of that budget.
Without a comprehensive AV package, including the right equipment and highly-qualified AV pros, the event may be memorable for all the wrong reasons. So what’s a meetings professional to do to control audio visual costs?
First, it's important to recognize that, although the AV line of the budget is sizeable, the wise use of AV and adherence to a process that includes bringing the AV Team in early can make a big difference and can help save money elsewhere.
Below, we offer suggestions to assist you in managing the AV line of your budget.
1. The Planning Process. A reputable and professional AV company wants to partner with you, not sell you equipment and services you do not need. By selecting the company early on and including the team as soon as possible in discussions of the entire program--including goals, branding, sessions, speakers, prospective venues and your wish list for the event--they can give you a streamlined and accurate proposal.
This provides an opportunity to brainstorm challenges and identify workable solutions. Additionally, these discussions will give you insights on such things as capping the number of people or adding an overflow room to allow for staging, performance space, AV equipment and other elements. It also helps with setting expectations of your company's management team in advance.
